Silence in the music is a must.
In MA few years back TMK sang Thiruvadi saranam. in a athi chowka kalam. Very slow tempo. The Mirudhangam maestro who accompanied him observed silence at many placing enhancing the beauty of his singing. It looked funny when a lady approached her and expressed her view on the maestro's playing telling he did not know how to play hence he was silent.
Folk devotional music is a very popular art over classical.
Folk music in village gives emotional feeling

As regards to Ensemble by Mannarkoil, the amount of joy and appreciation could be visible when the entire Hall started putting Adhi Thalam closely following the Avarthanam. The whole MA was reverberating with clapping sound on a signal [ appeal ] from Dr Karthik.
Shri rshankar,
Thanx for the correction.

Isn't there another festival svanubhava which was also conducted couple of days ago in chennai?
it also has the same goals right?
two similar events back to back in chennai feels like an overdose - hope people move out of chennai-centric culture and enlighten rasikas from other cities too.

Shri pperumal

If it is possible to bring such large numbers at any place we would be willing to perform sir. Place is not a matter. The participation in Chennai is huge because of the reach. The Music Forum Trust run by Dr Sunder has been conducting various workshops in even remote villages near Govindapuram etc. I have been part of such workshops organised all over tamil nadu. Rajapalayam, Tirunelveli, Tanjavur, Nellikkuppam, Kumbakonam, Govindapuram, Mayavaram, Tiruvayyaru and many other small towns Music Forum Trust has arranged such huge programmes. At all these workshops we had nearly 1200-1500 students taking active part.
If you have any such openings please get in touch with me or Dr.Sundar we would be willing to do such an event.

Mannarkoil J Balaji
