A wonderfully well-presented concert by Smt. Gayathri Girish. The varnam set the tempo and there was no looking back. She warmed up with the first three popular krithis before she sang Santhanamanjari. Then came an elaborate Purvi kalyani , the alapana of which was very detailed, bringing out the essence of the raga completely. The masterpiece of the krithi was rendered in an unhurried pace replete with bhava and bhakthi. A quick kadaikann in begada later Gayathri stunned the audience with a superb Pallavi presentation- she sang the 3 ragas in great style, niravals in both the speeds and swaras that she let fly!! When it ended, the impact that it had made on me was so severe that I was heard humming it through the day(apaswarams notwithstanding). Then came the thukkadas- gamanashram with its thaans was very good. I had to stay back an congratulate the artist for a lovely concert and in the process clarified some of the doubts I had. Looking forward to hearing her again!
