Rara Rajeevalochana - Lalgudi Jayaraman

Post by venkatasub »

Hi all,
Long ago, in fact during my teens, I had heard Rara Rajeevalochana of Mysore Vasudevachar in Mohanam, rendered by the great Lalgudi Jayaraman and his sister through All India Radio. If I remember it was just a three minutes gramophone record. The lilting melody of Mohanam is still haunting me with pleasant memories. I have searched heaven and earth for the same but with no success. Can anyone guide me as to where I can get it? I would be very much thankful to anyone who helps me get the song!

Venkatasubramanian.

You could add this too . It is available in the cd that is given as accompaniment to his biography and finds reference on page 171

Thanks a million! In fact, I feel words are pathetically inadequate to express even an iota of my gratitude. On listening to the song I literally re-lived my young years. Mohanam is one of my favourite ragas and Lalgudi is an undisputed king in it. The rendition of the pallavi itself and that too the lilting phrase 'Rara' in kaleidoscopic patterns lifts one to eternal heights and ethereal bliss. The rest of the song can be taken just as bonus, that is all! I have listened to this song by many other performers but with due respects to all of them [for, they are also accomplished virtuosos in their own right] the enchantment of that elegant, exquisite variety of 'Rara' phrases belong only, only to the bow and strings of the immortal magician of music, Lalgudi!
Thank you.
R Venkatasubramanian.
