Sikkil Gurucharan is an artist who always proves that his music is filled with quality and charm. He puts lots of “uzhaippu” in his music. Sometimes, I feel he is struggling his vocal chords to bring a quality music. But his concert is impeccable. After the birth of his daughter, he has become more handsome too.
Yesterday, he was performing in Arkay Convention Centre, Luz. Today, he will be performing in Bharathiya vidhya bhavan Annual music festival. So, December season has come in advance to test the vocal chords of artists !!!

As Srimans-Nick and Rajeshnat mentioned in the “Event announcement” column, Sri.Ramakrishnan is doing yeomen service for CM by giving quality concerts. Yesterday was the last day of that event and I also wished Shri.Ramakrishnan and told what “Rajeshnat” mentioned, comparing him with Shri.SVK of Nada Inbam. He politely disagreed with me and heaping full praise on SVK and his amazing work on CM front.
Coming back to SGC, his gowrimanohari rAgam proved the best for me. It was long unheard rAgam. In fact I have Gurulekha-SSI version and Somu Version-I also compare the neraval in “tatvabOdhana” and always awestuck to see how they choked their soul in their music. . SGC did not render any neraval but produced that much “heat” in his rAgam and his long swaram at the end.
Bharathiar's song was somehow new to me.
Nanda gopala-some how did not impress me. Maharajapuram Santhanam created such an impact in me on this kriti and even a child, once heard this, could master this rAga and this kriti after listening to MS. After Ennuir tOzhi -in the film KarNan, this is the best YK kriti for me
Sanjeev was like Varadharajan to Sanajy. Today also he is accompanying. He is real treat and brings his best in repeat. He does not follow the patter of the artist. He puts his masala in his violin and brings the best recipe.
Neveli and Adambakkam’s tani is another revelation. I know Neyveli when he played for our Radha kalyanam in our house at Trichy. Neyveli found little hard in the complicated tillana but Shrimusham raja rao’s tillanas are always challenging.

I am not sure the second raga is charukEsi.I also heard this krithi for the first time . Googling on this I find lot of references to TNS.

Subjective Impressions:

I missed the first one , a bad miss a rare telugu krithi of MD . I came at that moment when he was singing a short alankaram in alapana to end the song. His start in mandari was to me very well done , I liked the speed in neraval too that too with both the percussionist having a charge indeed gave a pleasant experience
As GRS says the gowrimanohari raga alapana was the pick , but i felt his krithi was shade too slow to my liking , he could have gone with nearly the same charge that he presented in the second half of swaras . The filler nanda gopala could have had bit more azhuttam . Saaveri as a main is quite a challenge when musicians move away from its drowsy hotspots to more tara sthayi shoots . IN alapana gurucharan did great justice but in the krithi, neraval and swaras he presented bit shortcharged as though it is a AIR recording . All the tukkadas were well done
For a moment i was thinking S Kalyanaraman shade was there for the kapi but engal kannammA nagai pudu rojappu could have had bit more sustained fragrance . There can be bit more sustenance in each of the ragas before moving to the next . The hamsanandi throw was bit absent but it was refresshing to hear a kannada language thillana (I did not know that it was rajarao thillana).For me the pick was the gowrimanOhari alapana, the mandari krithi and few pockets of tukkada.
As grs said the comparison is quite apt for sanjeev, i would humbly put he was more like nagai sriram nalla press and azhuttam and certainly he took the concert up with his sunaada bowing. THe two percussionist especially the ghatam artist indeed played well, the taps and knotty variations from shankar was really good. Tani was well done.
I missed bit more manodharmam from gurucharan , but his presentation has a lot of janaranjakam . HIs song selection was very well done with very good team support
Overall a very good concert for 2 hours and 10 minutes.
