After 15th Aug 2015 concert at Mumbai, no concert of R&G has been reviewed here, I think. So, here it is.

• kalyAni-main followed by “kathya kathaya mAdhavam”-Narayana teertar- (S)
• Tani
• EtiyOchanulu-kIrnAvali-Thyagarajar
• Dwijavanthi- RTP- “varasaila rAja sutE sAradE, jayajaya vanthi pAhimAm”- set to kanta jAti triputa tAlam

DwijAvanthi is also called “jaya jaya vanthi” in HindustAni, as informed by Gayathri .
rAga mAligA in “Laitha (Ranjani), KuntalavarAli (Gayathri), Urvika (Ranjani), sUrya (Gayathri).

• Virutham- “kuLir mazhai kAkka kudi piditta giridhAri…..” DanyAsi, mOhanam, kAnadA- followed by “enna solli azhaitAl”- Ambujam krishna.

• mEErA bhajan- SudhasArang. “paga gungurOO bAnga…..”

• pavamAna-mangalam.

R&G’s concert is always outstanding. The numero uno (or duo) pair as of today. Understanding of each other and with an able violinist Charumathi, they created such an aura of beauty in their concert.

In the kalyAni alApana, Gayathri was shown a ray of mohanam and again back to kalyAni –she is “rudramAdevi of CM”. Mohanam was like a “VIBGYOR” in the cloud sky”. At the same time, Ranjani, is very sedate in her presentation. Her rItigowla was a true class of her vidwat.

I always wonder why “ennEramum” is not sung with GKB mudra saraNam. Only MS had sung this in her concerts. It is such a beautiful kriti explaining Chidambaram temple’s beauty. Like kAlai tOOkki of Yadukulakambodhi, explaining the beauty of Lord Siva. R&G stopped it with first charaNam.

Dwajavanthi, sahAna, rEvathi- any one who listens to its, shall fall in love instantly. Gayathri, along with Ranjani-with her Hindustani background, carried the entire audience in some other world.
Almost full hall, demanding, as usual, abhang-stayed till the last and what else….. “standing ovation”

Manoj Siva was not his usual self that day. Even during tani, he gave more time for Guruprasad. “soraththE” (in chaste Tamil) illAmal, he played.

ChArumathi – She is becoming another Gayathri, in violin. She goes one up from the vocal artists, in her return.
Referring books/sheets have become part of the culture of many artists. At least, few of the lines, the artists need to take care of…

bhAga sEvichi was repeated in saraNam also instead of “ bhAgavato”
aparimita vibhavam in the place of “amita vibhavam”
thisai eNgalum pugazum instead of “thisaieNgenum” - Both may have the same meaning. eNgalum is the actual lyrics, I think, unless Sri.Lakshman thinks otherwise.

Yesterday’s event was sponsored by “kEdhAram-kEdhAr’s musical way”-promoted by kEdhar’s Cricket Academy. Don’t’ know more about this but interestingly, there is –unusual- cricket-CM nexus.

To end this, I have some observations:.
1) Unnikrishnan has agreed to sing on Jan 5th. He cancelled his concert last week.
I need to mention this point. On that day, when Unnikrishnan did not sing, I visited Vani Mahal and Dr.Vijayalakshmi Subramanyan was singing in lieu of UK. The organizers thanked her for agreeing. You need a big heart to sing as a replacement. Most of the well known artists, even UK, himself, will not do this, if he is asked do.
Hardly 20 people were sitting to listen to Doctor’s concert !!
Though, I have nothing against UK, I don’t know why agreed to sing after sometime. He will be singing on 17th at NGS !!

2) Abhishek will sing here with one of his accompaniments that will be chitra veena

Some other post, mentioned, about Vani Mahal - one of the best ambiances, seats are new, with plastic sheets covered still - comfortable sitting. Real pleasure in listening with such an atmosphere.
