IDENTIFY THE ARTIST

Post by CRama »

I have got a concert or Commercial CD of a female singer comprising of songs on Kamakshi. I am not able to identify the singer. I think she is a present day rising star in CM. I am giving below the link to Kanchadalayathakshi in Manohari. Kindly hear it. It is in a different kalapramanam- vilambam- not like what we hear from other singers. DKP used to sing in this kalapramanam. So kindly spare some time to download the song, enjoy the song and identify the singer. The main song in this concert is Nannu brochutaku in Thodi.

Eureka!
I just had to lower myself into the bathtub called Shazam and it gave the details in a JIFFY:
Bharati Ramasubban
Charsur 2014
Titled Sarveshvari (Live)

This concert was actually reviewed here too:

Thanks RSachi for your immediate response. By the way, did you enjoy the slower version of Kanchadalayathakshi. I request other members also to spare some time and hear the song. It will be a different experience.

On a side note, TNS has rendered a RTP in Kamalamanohari (forgot the tala) Kanchadalayathakshi Kamakshi Kamalamanohari. A must hear.

#3 CRama , .. You rightly put it as a different experience. Sung in vilamba kalam (16 beats instead of the usual 8)
made the difference. Structurally not too different, but was very pleasant.

And CRama, does Ms Ramasubban always sing this way? Has she trained herself to sing like this? It is an interesting approach but calls for more breath control and can show up defects in swara sthanas. She does acquit herself well here. After all Dikshitar says, "kunjaragamane" - the Devi has to move majestically like an elephant, not a scampering deer!
