This aural subjective review is in the visual order of Left to right after I attended the concert.

Vijay Natesan and mrudangam
---------------------------
This is the first time i am hearing vijay natesan in a live concert . Few searches in the internet has given pointers that he is the disciple of TVG and he has moved from Bombay. What can i say he has speed and a lot of sarvalaghu variety , to me in songs I aurally hear a lot of anthakalathu vellore ramabadran. The start in the swash buckling ramabhakthi sarvalaghu was just a start to showcase his variety. The gentle and longer sahitya of devagandhari and seetavara showcased his prowess in giving at times a lovely contrast to sarvalaghu. The best of best was indeed his 5th speed play in vidajaladura in janaranjani- what can i say he ran and kept up the *long sarvalagu momentum of long filler status* which will tire many mrudangist - but vijay signified victory. IN madhyamavati and bhairavi the roll was very impressive. Tani was slightly loud in one of the rounds but that was just okay. Overall vijay natesan was very impressive , I will keep in my list as - hey this mrudangam artist will surely lift the concert atleast one notch up.

Madipakkam gopalakrishnan and Kanjira:
-------------------------------------
madipakkam Gopalakrishan is the brother of madipakkam murali who plays ghatam. This vidwan gopalakrishnan is certainly not in concert circuit in chennai . He played the kanjira which was diametrically bigger. He was surely impressive and I especially liked his rotation during madhyamavati , he was not overshadowing ever the mrudangam artist, but really giving great support . In tani there was a bit noticeable slowdown when compared to mrudangam artist - in a way it was okay considering during tani for few strokes the mrudangam volume was high

Suryaprakash and vocal:
----------------------
Atleast writing only the most distinct wow part of this concert . Many many many years ago in sastri hall suryaprakash sang madhyamavati as a main that I attended and it was parked out for a long time.I am glad madhyamavati got resurrected and not forgotten. Ramakatha sudha and madhyamavati was a joy to hear. Their school MMI-TVS usually have taken madhyamavati more as tailenders like karpagamE or saravana bhava etc as such to hear a biggie krithi ramakatha sudha it is indeed joy. We all mistake Suryaprakash as primarily a second gen disciple of mmi , but he belongs to a distinct ssi school too, rama katha sudha was a testimony to his other two unnoticed gurus his first guru tirukodikaval rajamani and MA venugopal from SSI school . madhyamavati swaras were lovely ,the koraippu was so long and i enjoyed it .When there is rotation where only vocalist sings without any accompanist and then a flurry of support sangathis when other three join atleast in those moments, the Voice is unadulterated and you get a clear aural view of shruthi suddham with vocalist.

The preceding bhairavi was done very well , i was thinking that it was a main but what can i say it settled as submain ++ and main -- krithi. papanAsam shivan is an utttama vageyakkara in composing lyrics in sanskrit and it came out very well , especially the bhairavi oomph with power and restraint from annapoorE phrase in anupallavi and then culminating with an intense dash in neraval with the lines of prasannam alamkritha kAsi nagaram - wow what a bhairavi it was. Shivan is just not thamizh thyagayya he is also thamizh dikshitar(atleast I can say that as the day was thamizh putthAndu with this krithi sree vishwanatham bhajE).

The pick of the concert was two numbers . The janaranjani vidajAladhura was superb - what speed and with brilliant mrudangam overdrive from vijay natesan , the vidajAladhura was bantuReetified or parama purushufied .Dazzling speed of swaras with near zero violin return it is indeed a joy. Janaranjani was resplendent in ganakaladhara sarvalaghu attire.

The last kAnadA tukkada was aesthetically very nice . I have personally not heard this arunachala kavirayar song- dEvi ivaL rAmA .The song was in KAnadA which always has a special oomph . The lines were superb dEvi ivaL rAmA gautaman Avi ivaL rAmA and suryaprakash said AK wrote it is as agaliyar sabatham??? or something (I did not catch all that he briefly said, some one can write more )

M vijayaganesh and violin:
----------------------
With the print, i was initially mistaken with another violinist M Vijay. But this violinist M Vijayaganesh is different , he has learnt from AGA Gnanasundaram who is the disciple of the legend Lalgudi Jayaraman. Vijayaganesh bow always has melody and the raga bhavam is always centered with Lalgudi precision - very strictly in the contours of gayaki style . The pick of his was his madhyamavati return which is one raga that is a perennial favourite of LGJ. I felt he was going bit slow during returns for few swara patterns - but i am making a futuristic assumption that he cares for raga bavam precision and speed will slowly come to him soon. What is most impressive is that He is very watchful when vocalist sings ,and was going very well with the singer without a shade of intrusion . He has the right proportion sense which is already there in minutes of violin return. I have not seen or heard his name ,prior to say last 12 or 18 months- appears as one violinist who is going to consistently stamp with Lalgudi style. He is focused on classical fundamentals of being a great non intrusive accompanist centered on raga bhavam.

One particular shortcoming:
----------------------------
1. Lack of neraval in rama katha sudha . I donot know when this vocalist will again sing madhyamavati but without a neraval felt a bit of O gosh i missed it.I heard it many years before the neraval for this song from suryaprakash in sastri hall, but I have forgotten. He had atleast another 5 to 10 mins to sing that.

All said the intensity was always there, this concert indeed appeared as a very seasoned concert .Despite hearing 3 accompanist for the first time ,there was enough anjaneya balam that each of them bought into this concert.

Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 55 minutes.

VijayaGanesh is my cousin's son (not that it matters). He grew up in Madurai and moved to Chennai after his college days. I remember him training rigorously even before he became a teenager. He was in the IT industry all these years and therefore his music took a back seat. I guess he has given up a regular IT job for good and is now focussing more on his music. I still retain one of his initial cassette recordings (which had the Valaji varnam by LJ among several items. If you listen to it, you will be unable to tell if it was him or the Maestro! Wish him good luck in his musical pursuits.
