Re: Chitravina N Ravikiran's Concert and Workshop in Bangalore.
The concert has been reviewed nicely in the other thread, and it was a lovely concert with a great team of artistes on stage!
I can definitely give a summary of the workshop which was a pleasure to organize. It was well attended with students of all ages and Shri Ravikiran taught in his usual inimitable style with attention to the finer details.
Purandaradasa's Grand Dashavatara Ragamalika was beautifully taught with emphasis on key aspects to individual ragas.
This was followed by a Model Alapana example in the ragas Kedaragowla and Latangi with numerous tips to bring out important phrases in each of these ragas and dos and don'ts.
My personal favorite was the Model Kalpana Swaram in Vasanta with an example of how to develop kalpana swara in the charanam of Seetamma mayamma with lightning fast torrent of swarams and a grand finale korvai.
Many people have asked to be able to view the webcast of this session so we are extending the time period for that till another week.
Heres a photo taken after the event.
