Has any one ever sung any krithis in rohini ragam . May be did illayaraja or some other popular music director tune any popular song. Pointers please

It is the rAgA sUryashrI devised by S.Kalyanaraman. Rohini is the name given to this rAgA by BMK.

nAda vinodangal from salangai oli which is sriranjani comes close - as prati madyamam is introduced in the interludes! The N2 becomes a proxy for M1 - N3 will be implied when M2 is introduced. I heard phrases from this when I heard varshas recording of Dr BMK.

Let me hear this at my leisure . I do know about suryashri and also have a rare bhagyam of hearing a pallavi in suryashri once.

What a genius illayaraja was . I was thinking as it was only predominantly shriranjani, never bothered the other raga interludes till kanniks told us. Only illayaraja can do this kind of blend.

If you hear it in Madyama Sruti - happens since too much careful dwelling on M1 - you will hear a light Pantu Varali - means the rAga is a pancama mUrcana of pantu varali.

( a seductive rAgam ).
