---------------
Smt Vidya Kalyanaraman paying glorious musical tribute to Brahmasri Papanasam Sivan on his 126th Jayanthi . The entire concert presented with Sanskrit composition of the great composer of our era.
Gifted with delightful voice the concert took off to a flying start with Natabhairavi - setting the tone for the next two hours.
The alapana of Purvikalyani and Kharaharapriya were connoisseur’s delight; the structure and texture of the ragas presented with finesse
Her exotic Kharaharapriya Alapana with “kamalajaa manOhara shreekarakaruNaa” as neraval that won huge applause
Violinist Sri. Rahul responded with a brilliant version of the raga and impressed with his melodious accompaniment.
Sri. Guru Raghavendra (mridangam) was brilliant thorough the concert.
Must give full credits to Shri Ashok Ramani for organising this grand musical tribute on his grandfather’s 126th Jayanthi.

Did not realize that it was an all Sanskrit kriti program until Ashok Ramani announced it at the end of the program although the tukkadas gave me somewhat of an inkling. Vidya was in full flow in her ideas and execution and made it a memorable concert.

Yes, another capable young singer we do not hear much about in the Reviews thread. A hard working one too, I gather. She was at Cleveland a few years ago and we saw her participating in singing for the dance programs, training the kids for months via skype and then here too for the festival. I have heard her a few times over the past few years and like her singing.
Ashok Ramani has to be appreciated for all his efforts in keeping his grandfather's compositions alive--also in making it a mission to teach them to the next generation.

Wonderful attempt by Vidya to bring in all sanskrit compositions of a vaggeyakkara who is known as thamizh thyagayya. Few of the numbers in the list , I am reading it for the first time.

Smt. Vidya impressed me in the Podhigai series on MSS. Her musical delivery has some rough edges, but obviously she is well trained and very knowledgeable. My best wishes.
