Thanks, R. It was a wholesome experience - at times serene and introspective, at others, intense and exhilarating.

The kalyANi AlApana had beautiful pancama varjya phrases cascading downwards. The strength of the voice in the lower octave was evident from the time spent dwelling in the mandAra pancama. The choice of pallavi for neraval in the kriti offered myriad opportunities to express the idea of exhorting the mind to worship rAma. These were explored beautifully with the punch of the two-off beat at --bhajana!

The kIravANi AlApana had many refreshing phrases and the pathos in the violinist's interpretation was really something. Numerous svarAkshara usages in the neraval, particularly around pa-ri-pA-la enhanced the emotive content rather than detracting from it.

The emotion was also palpable in the two Gandhi songs which seem to be set in such appropriate rAgAs.

The kamalAmbA shlOka struck me as a tour de force because each phrase and the corresponding rAga were only sung for a few seconds but encompassed the spirit of the rAgA, even the ghaNTA which has a more elusive svarUpa.

That is what I wanted to know...thank you for sharing! It makes me all the more sad to miss this team's concert in NJ this coming weekend...As I was complaining to one of the office-bearers of CMANA, their concert calendar and my travel schedule seem to be in perfect sync this year! :(
