A very competent concert presentation to a full house at Raga Sudha Hall. Some observations:

1. A very good raga vinyasa of Devamanohari; Soulful presentation of the Mohanam composition with its beautiful cittasvara section. The presentation of this piece of the scion of the Dikshitar sishya paramapara with neraval at 'gathiyendru' was most satisfying.
2. The not-at-all rendered cittasvara of the Sri Rajagopala- Saveri as found in the SSP was rendered. One wished that the pace was a tad slower so as to provide for those pauses and longer akAra passages which could have embellished the rendering better. The slightly faster pace also resulted in a slight profusion of brighas which could have thus been avoided and would have brought more sowkyam to the rendering
3. The slokam rendering and Svati composition made one reminisce of Sri KVN especially as one, these days, compares RKM with Sri KVN especially on the voice quality.
4. Varadarajan providing very many of those Aha moments, especially in his raga vinyasas- devamanohari, saveri, kafi and Mohanakalyani in particular.
5. Sri Guruvayur Durai along with his disciple presented a very interesting tani for close to 15 mins in a 2 h 30 min concert.
6. Never were there cliched/repetitive/jarring phrases during the raga vinyasas. Curiously, save for the Mohanakalyani portion of the sloka rendering, the concert was bereft of pratimadhyama ragas.

A very good start for the Season, one should say !

Nayaki in the slOkam was the heroine! Saveri nereval and swarams the hero. And for a change, heroine centric this one was.
