An excellent concert for 3 hours. The kriti in Denuka- I could n’t get the composer. Sanjay’s alapana felt wanting. The thodi shade was very much evident and the whole swaroopam of Denuka came only at the end. Malavi alapana was good. He announced the name of the raga to avoid ambiguity. Vasantha was excellent. Nobody takes up Vasantha for main. The raga was very elaborate and the kriti not a regularly heard one. Suitable for a main song. The neraval at Adaaram enakku nee vedapureeswariye and following swaras prompted many rounds of applause. Vidi chakradulaku also is a rare one. RTP was excellent. In the ragamalika swarams, Kathanakuthoohalam, Ranjani, Saveri and Kapi were presented with elan.

Mrs. YGP showered lot of compliments to Sanjay and team. She said I am giving Sanjay the title S4. That is SANGEETA SAMRAT SANJAY SUBRAMANIAM. (Whether the tile is already given to Sanjay)

S.Vardarajan- He was simply outstanding in his raga alapanas and swara returns. The percussion team played with zeal, enthusiasam, anticipation and embellished the concert.

Nobody takes up Vasantha for main.

This year I reported trichur brothers have taken hari hara putram(R N S T) as main . Also I have heard two other occasions in the past where vasantha was main

rajeshnat: You were fortunate to have heard "todi and harikambodhi" in BGS wherein CRama and myself had to confine ourself to Vasanta. Though Vasanta was elaborate, considering other ragas rendered in this concert, SS did not fulfil our apetite of rAgAs.

Moreover, Thyagarja kriti rendered as tukkadA rAgam - I was not happy.

CRama- iduvO tillai was the last "but one" song of GKB

There was one important last song which you forgot to mention, which was the song of the day and apt for post-de monitisation. The applaue was deafening after this song. It was in raag "Maand"

"பணமே, உன்னால் என்ன குணமே, தண்டம் பண்ணினேன், சற்றும் என் கண்ணில் முன் நில்லாதே"

Meaning- Oh Money, you have no good qualites, I prostrate before you, please get out of my sight"

This kriti, may be of Vedhanayagam pillai. like person singing this song, criticising "money"

It has excellent wordings and surprising it was written long back that is even true today.

OH GRS, Really a bad miss for me. I left when he started the Sindubhairavi song. Hence even the words I reported incorrectly. I missed the Money song.

Regarding the missing of heavy ragams, I deeply felt about it. IN many concerts I have attended, artistes are taking up small ragams or HM ragams for pallavi. Pallavis in grand ragams are nowhere heard. In this concert, when Vasantha was the Main, I expected a pallavi in a gtand old ragam. But SS thought otherwise. I was greatly relieved yesterday in Amrita Murali's concert, when after a main Begada, she took up Keeravani for a pallavi.

Provided the performance of the items are very good, I would be very happy with this concert list. I really wish I could hear a recording.

Dhenuka is maybe the only exception - I don't think I'd like an alap in that raga.
