Gayathri Girish started the concert with the spright rendition of the Kambodi varnam. Being the first day of Margazhi, the Tiruppavai Margazhi tingal followed which was rendered in a leisurely pace in Adi 2 kalai. Three ragams- Varali, Brindavanasaranga and Vachaspati were rendered very elaborately showing the myriad hues of the ragams through fast sancharams, plain notes, measured gamakams and lilting brighas. The TNS flavour was very much evident in the alapanas of Varali and Brindavanasaranga. TNS was the forerunner in presenting expansive alapanas of ragams like Brindavanasaranga, Subhapanthuvarali etc. The pallavi in Vachapati was a request from me. Nobody takes up Vachaspati for a pallavi nowadays. Alathur Brothers and DKP have presented elaborate alapanas of Vachaspati and intricate pallavis in this ragam. I am thankful to GG for acceding to my request. The pallavi was a grand one with full justification to all the segments like raga alapana, tanam, neraval, swarams, Trikaalm and ragamalika swarams in Ritigowla and Saveri. The Madhuvanti song was a request from the violinist Murari.
Murari’s raga alapanas and swara returns were most appropriate. Neyveli Skandasubramaniam played with lot of anticipation and the tani with Trivandrum Rajagopal though short, was energetic and received loud applause from the audience. An excellent concert for three hours. For those who have missed this, watch out for Paalam webcast.

Re: GAYATHRI GIRISH FOR MUDHRA-16/12/16
Look forward to it - hopefully will not be telecast until mid January next year though as I'll miss it otherwise! The ragamalika swaras probably could have involved a couple more ragas though.
