Thank you, Smt. Savitri. So, maNDUka Sabdam refers to both a type of composition (i.e., a Sabdam) as well as the sound of the frog! Interesting. However, the centerpiece of the Sabdam is not the maNDuka, but a man (Sri Rama)!

manduka shabdham is also called as the gajendra moksha shabdham.
it came to be called as the manduka shabdham as the poet captures the croaking of frog in the lake where elephant-gajendra and the crocodile-makara fought (gajendra moksha episode)
it is the oldest among the shabdhams is what i read
