12. Bruhi Mukundeti (Sadashiva Brahmendra)
13. Mangalam

Those of us who attended this concert were indeed fortunate - Organized by the Gurvayoorappan Samaj, G Ravikiran - who's gifted with an amazing voice, showed great maturity and poise, and reminded one of the greats of yesteryears.
One hears of his thorough knowledge of Carnatic music when presents "Colors of a Raga" and other programs on Shruthi (Worldspace) - but this 3 hour concert indeed showed his mastery in his field and winning over every 'rasika' present there.

If the Bhakti-bhava with some winning swarams in Dhenuka set the tone - a lovely sriranjini, followed by a great composition, followed. The Shanmuga-priya - rarely sung these days - was presented in all its beauty and splendour - the alapana - especially the tara-sthayi - had us spellbound. Neerajakshi Kamakshi - rendered in Ati-Vilambava kala - was something to cherish. After a briskly rendered Manjari - the "crowning glory" of the concert - Shankarabaranam - the mamis sitting next to me kept saying that they were reminded of Ariyakkudi - the neraval was brilliant - the kalpana swaram really brought to live every "ashaivu" in the peaceful ragam that Shankarabaranam is. Post the thani, was Irakkam Varamal (one has heard his Guru Shri T M Krishna sing it several times) - the Slokam that followed was beautifully crafted - to the joy of all around - following it up with the plaintive Ashtapadi - Vadashiyathi.

Kudos to this young man for a truly memorable concert!

Wow, looks like I had missed a wonderful concert. Keep it up, Ravikiran. Any recordings available?

Seems like a nice concert anchored by a selection of time-tested and dignified pieces. Kudos to Ravikiran.

Some nice SSI hits in the list!
Btw, Shri TMK also renders nIrajAkshi in (Ati^2) vilamba kAlA:).
sappri,
What about the pakkavAdhyam? Shri. Cheluvaraju would have had the audience spell bound too, I guess...Long since I heard him.

@rbharath
It's in 2 kalai only. In my previous post, I was talking about the speed. Incidentally, the recording I have is from one bangalore concert where Shri Cheluvaraju has accompanied Shri TMK.

I started reading that post and did not realise that there could be two gravikirans..So the "I too attended the concert" for his own concert , confused me.

It seems that there is one who is the student of TMK and RKS, and then the other, who is a member of this forum.

No! The member of this Forum has the website
http://www.gravikiran.com/
which speaks for itself.
We don't like playing games here!

Ravikiran who gave the concert might clarify if someone came and talked to him after the concert saying, 'I enjoyed the concert. By the way, my name is Ravikiran too--G. Ravikiran'! I mean, it is possible...

Wait! I still feel it can't be the singer. First of all, a professional (both on and off stage) wouldn't call himself 'excellent' and then speak of his accompanist as not 'so good'.

Hmm some detective work we are engaged in :) Only thing that makes sense is, someone who is known to the singer G. Ravikiran has posted using his id.

gravikiran (id),
In the post http://rasikas.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=1394 (post #6),I see you have mentioned giving tambura support .
gravikiran wrote:the shloka/viruttam is from the "shiva maanasa pooje" of adi shankara. it is the concluding stanza and MSS popularised it as a prelude to "shiva shiva bho" (nadanamakriya).btw yours truly was on the tambura support for his guru.

Hmmm...nothing to stop you from inserting a link to someone else's website on your profile. So I guess it could be just about anyone....

Wow,
How can TWO members have the same login name - gravikiran? Srkris, Is it possible? And what about all the previous posts under the id 'gravikiran' - were they by the singer or by the rasika of the same name?

BTW, G Ravikiran (the singer, that is), that was a beautiful concert.

wow...i have no idea what is happening.
for the record, this is the said singer g ravi kiran whose concert was listed by a rasika.
curiously my login id is gravikiran too!!!
i am a member of this forum but i have no clue how someone else with the same login id could have posted. out of the 4 computers that i use at work, home and elsewhere one of them is shared and it is possible that i have logged in with "remember password" there.
i apologise for the confusion caused though i have no idea how it happened.
thanks for all the kind words from fellow rasiksa.

This 'comedy of errors' reminds me of the following 'classic' joke:
"It has been confirmed that the author of the Iliad and the Odyssey was not Homer, but another Greek with the same name."

Good that we can put the matter to rest now....a lesson for all of us to be a little more careful about leaving our comps unattended for others to play with! I can now appreciate why my bank makes me re-enter my passoword every 5 minutes!!

Apparently the moral is not to leave your computer unattended after loging on to the Forum to prevent practical jokes! Though this 'comedy of errors' was done with 'good intentions' , it may not be so all the time. Mods at the Forum are very watchfyl, alert and astute and will be forced to take action if there is a suspicion of foul play. You may needlessly lose the previlege of participation at the Forum for none of your fault.

We thank Vid|| G Ravikaran for clearing the mystery and wish him well in his CM career but ask him to be careful with his valuable 'uruppadis' (including this portal to his glory) safely guarded!

Assuming the computer of gravikiran (singer) was available for somebody to tamper with and that the thread was open at that time, somebody who is known to gravikiran in his office must have played a prank --either innocent or with a "varmam". Either way gravikiran should investigate it further lest his bank account is cleaned out next time around.

as you folks have rightly guessed, it was indeed a practical joke played by a well-meaning friend [:(].
