Prabatha Sangeetham on Nov 1st at 7.30 am for Nadaloka,Bengaluru.

Neela mami (as she is fondly called) gave an inspiring prabatha sangeetham program at Bengaluru, regaling the audience with a raga and krithi list, steeped in classicism. At 7.30 am it was full house; it was gratifying to see young and old (10-75) attentively listening and enjoying the music. This is a report of the program.

1, Ugabhoga and Pahimam Parvathi in Mohanam of dikshithar
2, A snapshot of mukhari and the majestic Kaarubaru of thyagaraja
3. A tamizh virutham in Varali followed by Kamaakshi in varali of Shyama saastri
4. Anupama Gunaambudhi in Atana - Ragam, Niraval and swaram. A slightly different approach to atana
5, Tamizh virutham followed by Vaa Muruga of Mayuram Viswanatha saastri in sindhubhairavi
6. Ramakrishnaru manega bandaru

In chennai during dec season there is also this prabhata sangeetham . I am just curious on this word prabhatha . I was assuming this is short form for Suprabhatham and i thought this has to be way too early say at 4 or 5 am and it should wrap before say 7 or 7 30 as only that early morning can be called prabhatha . But starting at 07:30 AM can it be still called prabhatha . Not finding fault just wanted to understand the name prabhatha. I am also assuming this always has to have no accompaniment.

prabhAta = morning
SuprabhAta(m) = good morning - also used to refer to a set of verses that wish the deity a ‘good morning’ - tava suprabhAtam (good morning to you), as well as to others that ask the deity to make it a good morning (kuru suprabhAtam) for the reciter.

Wondering which rAga this was in.......

I am still looking to read that someone performed this in a rAga other than tillang ( do I need to mention that I am not a fan of the tillang version?)

I have heard it performed on the veena in sindhu bhairavi and I liked it!

You are right. The raga name is desika todi.supposedly the first kriti of st.tyagaraja was in this raga. I listened the rendering of this song by akc. Nararajan. The anupallavi and charanams give a clear indication of sindhubhairavi. Same is another famous mayuram viswanatha saastry song. "Kanthamam". MLVs rendering of the former

The todi janyam seems to have sgmpdns sndpmgrs with notes without gamakams like todi. ( infact todi swaras sung plain will giv sindhubhairavi swaroopam). More to write abt this. Is it already there in rasikas forum? Will chk.
