Observations:
A wonderful singer with a good voice. Hearing him for the first time live after listening to him on YT and he performed admirably. Good stage presence and no excessive waving of hands and gestures which was welcome.
Another youngster in the making who can get better and progress with good guidance. Has all the correct ingredients.
Highlights:
Sriranjani, Kalyani, Saramathi Ragam
Positives:
He has a voice that he uses in a full throttle open throated manner but not shout. Good voice culture.
The Kalpanaswarams for Sriranjani at Sogasuga, Mridanga and Thalamu was well done.
His planning was good which enabled him to add a Pallavi. His confidence came through and sang the Manodharma aspects without any doubt or hesitation.
Kalyani Ragam Alapana was spirited and carried good momentum. The experienced violinist Anantha Krishnan was good also and produced a lovely Alapana. His tone and sound was sweet throughout the concert.
Prashanth was good and had lot of influences of Patri. Was sensible and added value.
Negatives:
At times Vivek gets carried away. His over enthusiasm should subside with more concert singing. His Kalyani was on the lighter side here and there which I wish he would leave behind.
Thanam and Pallavi in Saramathi was a let down after a good Raga Alapana. Maybe a different more heavier Ragam or a different Pallavi would have had a better impact.
Thoughts:
Another good find for me this season. So many good youngsters are on the horizon. Looking forward to hearing Ananya Ashok next this season. Any other recommendations of good youngsters in this slot bracket?
