Smt.Vijayalakshmi Rajaram, a disciple of Thanjavur Sankara Iyer sang for Naada Inbam on 16th June accompanied by Smt. Padma Sankar and Thillaisthanam Suriyanarayanan.

One felt happy that her music carried the indelible stamp of her guru. The extraordinary care to maintain the excellence in musical values, the authentic padanthara, gamaka suddha , austerity of expression and the total avoidance of gimmicks made one extremely happy that here was a disciple who will carry forward his music to the next generation.

The song list was as follows:
1. karunimpa sahana varnam
2. panchamathanga malahari dikshithar
3.maakelara ravichandrika thyagaraja 4.himachala anandhabairavi syama sastri
5.nathajana nalinakaanti sankara iyer
6.namoralakimpa devagandhari thyagaraja
7.maha tripurasundari -bhairavi pallavi gopalaiyer
8.anupama atana thyagaraja
9.sri kamakshi saranga anna swami sastri
10.maa janaki kambodhi thyagaraja
11.masil veenaiyum kaanada ,sindubhairavi
appar thevaram ( virutham)
12.periyor irukkum sindhubhairavi G.Krishna Bharathi
13.namashivayae kedaragowla
manikavachagar virutham
14.sotrunai kedaragowla appar
15 mangalam

All the raga expressions had musical validity and aesthetic sensibility .Bhairavi ,Kaanada and Sindhu Bhairavi stood out.
All the Kirthanas were rendered fully bringing out their characteristic. mood . Namorala Kimpa,Maha Tripurasundari and Maa Janaki were noteworthy.

The Thevarams bore the stamp of her rigorous training in the Oduvar tradition

Smt Padma Sankar is, perhaps, one of the most accomplished accompanists. Without ever upping the main artiste, she embellishes and enhances the aesthetic appeal with light and shade effectsand tonal excellence. In this concert , her enjoyment of the mode of the vocal presentation was obvious. Naturally she was at her best.

Thillaisthanam Suri, contributed to the total musical excellence by his unobtrusive but understanding support all through.

A pity that there were only about 60 rasikas to savour this music.

Lakshman sir,
I am informed that #12 Periyor irukkum idam is from Nandanar Charithram of Gopalakrishna Bharathi and that it is more in the nature of Ghazal.
I have made necessary corrections.
