How much time does a singer devote to sahitya in a concert of about 12-15 pieces? Will it be 25% of the time?
How many singers keep the meaning in mind while singing? Of the yesteryear singers, Dr. SR, Sri MDR used to, I believe. What about ARI, SSI, MMI?
In an interview, a Sikkil sibling said that it is the swara that comes to her mind when she hears a song. She was not a rebel.
Do instrumentalists pay as much attention to sahitya meaning? Of course, I have heard how LGJ would explain the meaning and the significance of notation to his disciples.
“When a Chettiar lamented after a concert of his that he had not played even one Tamizh song, TNR reprimanded his assistant for not bringing a Tamizh nagaswaram.” (from Carnatic Summer)

What is more important is how much time/effort the rasika devotes & how easy the artiste make this for the rasika.
