Re: SIFA . Sikkil Gurucharan
Thanks, Thanjavooran. Yes, Gurucharan struck at 3.5 hr full-filling concert @ SIFA last night.
He started off with a wonderful LGJ melody in Neelambari.
IMO, Chitrambari was the highlight of the concert. An elaborate alapana, followed by Koteeswara Iyer’s master piece Samaganalola. The neraval at “Chitrambari Gowri…” was praise worthy.
The other main pieces - Kedaragowla (Tulasi Bilva) & Kumudakriya RTK (ArdhaNaareswaram) were good; Sankaranarayan's thanis & Sanjeev's follows definitely elevated the concert.
Through out the concert, Gurucharan carried the SKR chaaya. Be it while handling the Vivadhi (Koteeswara Iyer's Chitrambari), or the SKR Dwijawanti thilla or finishing off with GNB’s Sonnadha Seidhida Sahasama, it reminded me of Maha-vidwan Tanjore S Kalyanaraman (SKR). Perhaps it was the melody or the sthruthi shudham or the nasal tone… it could be all of the above
