*Bharat Sundar at Ragamalika, Abu Dhabi*

Pradosham, Abu Dhabi and its cultural wing Ragamalika organised its annual music festival Swara Raga Sudha 2018 on 3rd and 4th May 2018 at Abu Dhabi.

Bharat Sundar performed the the grand finale, on 4th May evening. Concert details are

Bharat Sundar started off with a bang with a brisk rendition of Koteeswara Iyer's Hamsadhwani krithi of Ganapathi and Thyagarja's Abheri krithi. Bharat has performed earlier for Ragamalika in the year 2014 and had impressed the audience with his effortless singing. In the recent years, he has been creating waves with his concerts in the music season and the explosive start by him provided ample proof of the same.

Following this, he took up Malayamarutha raga alapana. Defying the expectation of Thyagaraja's Manasayetulo, he rendered a very rarely heard krithi Dhanyadevudo. As he was performing under Pradosham banner, he took up Muthuswamy Dikshitar's Pancha Bhootha Linga Kshetra Krithi on Water (Aapa) Jambupathe in Yamunakalyani ragam. His rendition was in a Chowka Kala suitable to the krithi and submerged the audience in a contemplative and devoted mood. Bharat next rendered the Rudrapriya krithi and took up Suddha Saveri raga alapana for an detailed exposition. The krithi taken up was the ever popular Dharini Thelusukonti of Thyagaraja on Tripurasundari Ambal which was very apt for rendition on friday. Neraval was followed by a torrent of Kalpana Swaras. HN Bhaskar on violin responded to the challenge of Bharat and the dialog/exchanges of the swaras between the vocalist and the violinist was a treat for the audience. NC Bharadwaj on Mridangam and S Krishna on Ghatam elevated the concert to a different level with their keen accompaniment and their Thani Avarthanam after this krithi drew a thunderous approval from the appreciative crowd. As a team the overall co-ordination and performance of the artists enhanced the concert. Bharat rendered the Atana krithi of Papanasam Sivan and after explaining the context of the krithi. The audience were in for more treat as Bharat next took up Shubha Pantuvarali ragam and rendered a Ragam, Thanam and Pallavi. This was like an excellent dessert following a sumptuous meal (or as the traditional saying in English - icing on the cake or in Hindi - Sone pe Suhaaga). This Pallavi is a composition of Thanjavur S Kalyanaraman and was rendered in Adi Talam. After the RTP, he rendered a Viruttam, the very popular Thillana of Swathi Thirunal and concluded his concert with Mangalam.

The audience surely appreciated the 4 hour elaborate feast of excellent music served by Bharat Sundar with his team and will definitely look forward to more such experiences in future.

Bharat Sundar sang this one last year in Sydney as well - rare and interesting song sung by Kuchela once he cones back to his home after meeting Krishna and cannot believe that his hut has changed into a mini- palace kind of - he says "what! Have I come back to Krishna's palace again?

Papanasam Sivan composed it - there was good neraval point too in charanam but can't remember - film song I think

He sang the Pallavi in Misra Chapu Thalam. The pallavi was "Murugua Thiru Mal Maruga Muthukumara Shanmuga Vannamayil Eri Vara Venum"

Thank you for your review . I am assuming there were ragamaliga swaras in subhapantuvarAli RTP .please do post that information and donot miss ragamalika in ragamalika ?
ParadOsham, sudanese social club hall, ragamaliga , abudhAbi and the sabha has given close to 4 hours . Kudos to everyone in abudhAbi

I did not keep track of the ragamalika swaras. Actually the Pallavi and swaras were quite short compared to the ragam and Tanam.

I have requested another person who attended the concert to help me with the details. When I get the same, I will post it.
