It should be "aRivEnayyA" and not "DA". Our dame is addressing Lord Murugan. If it is vaidIswaran koil that is being talked about it is vELUr ( vaidIswaran koil is also known as puL irukku vELUr puL = jaTAyu, irukku = Rig vEdA, vEL = murugan, Ur = Sun). It appears all of the aforesaid worshipped at vaidIswaran kOyil.

PS: My previous post made a mention of vEl instead of vEL. I have now edited it to vEL, which is the correct name.

My dictionary says that vEL means murugan also (some other meanings: king, manmadan).

This song to me is another one of those admixtures of divine and earthly feelings--the 'earthly' has the upper hand here...

But the song I am looking for is arivEnayya un antarangemellAm. It is also in aThANA and in rUpaka tALA.

I checked on the posted song and in the book Sri Subbarama Iyer Tamizh Padangal by retired music prof Smt P.R.Tilakam. The wording for the pallavi is arivEnaDA un asaippum iru kai visaippu pasappum

Well, accepting the printed text word "aRivEnaDA", it sounds rather strange that in this padam there is a mix of different forms of addressing the Lord: "DA" (which is second person singular, not demeaning but disrespectful form), pEsugiRIr, EsugiRir (second person singular but respectful), ayyanE, meyyanE (pleading to a superior being).

What is the intent of our dame here? Is she upset (delusional?) so much to use all forms of addresses? Only the composer knows!

recently I saw someone doing this number with the word "vesi" in charanam changed to some other decent word {I am not getting it now}. But my father SKR used to sing with these words only. vesiyai nee pukazhvadhangE.
