The Gayana Samaja was full of rasikas as the curtains lifted on a stellar cast of Guru and disciples ready to present their tribute to the Sangeetha Pithamaha.
When I am swept off by the music, I find it hard to make notes or comments. Suffice to say that the music that flowed was a measured tribute styled in high classicism.
I was stirred by three songs:
1. The song in Mohana to Ahobila Narasimha that depicts the stupendous story of how the Lord appeared amidst fire and brimstone and oceans on the boil to end the tyranny of Hiranyakashipu and bless Prahlada. Tuned by RKSK, the song captured the mood brilliantly.
2. The song in Nadanamakriya that shows how being born a human is a great opportunity for emancipation.
3. The song somewhat famous already in Yadukula Kambhoji "Swami Mukhyaprana" tuned by RKSK, on the Yantroddharaka Hanuman of Hampi.
The SooLadi of Purandara Dasa recorded in SSP that spans many talas and pays obeisance to the Lord of Tirupati was an eye-opener.
Someone else (many rasikas including Badari were present) will give a more comprehensive report.
Indeed it was a tribute concert. Not much scope for individual brilliance for the stars on stage but served a great purpose to highlight the musical contributions and greatness of the Pitamaha.
God bless SRLKM and the team of artistes.
