Weighty concert dripping with beauty. I particularly enjoyed the kharaharapriya, with rather original swaras, and the Ananda bhairavi main. His elongated alapana passage with deep jArus in the ananda bhairavi was arresting. Akkarai, KVP, and Anirudh all accompanied well. AS's Ananda bhairavi reaching into the lower registers was memorable.

Ravikiran's music exemplifies the importance of fundamentals. He plays with shruti shuddam, concision, with measured gamakas, clarity, ample moments of silence, and total concentration. One doesn't need never-ending kOrvais, breakneck velocities, dazzling brighas, excessive ornamentation with gamakams in an effort to sound super-classical, and a host of other gimmicks to create beautiful music.

As a surgical resident, one of the foremost lessons in surgery is to not waste any moves, and to perform an operation with as few movements as possible. Each movement must then be premeditated to serve a precise function in advancing the case. I find that this economy and efficiency are a key feature in the musicians I most admire.

Pahi tarakshu puralaya of Swati Tirunal. This is a staple fare of Semmangudi and also M.A Kalyanakrishna Bhagavatar who had presented many a time n the Navarathri Mandapam. First time hearing this kriti from the Kalanidhi. Superb presentation.
