This is like selling Christmas cards in, errm, March!

(I always think of the 9.00am slot as being "senior")

I suppose the song lists are also out. All that is left is how many minutes and seconds for each item.

Saw the list briefly, but it disappeared. So too Vijay Siddharth's post in the Events thread. What I could gather from my seeing it for a minute or so is as follows:

Several women vocalists and instrumentalists in the list: Panthula Rama, Sumitra Vasudev, Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi (with her bro), very young Suchithra (harikatha), Dr.Narmada on the violin, and I couldn't see the list anymore to see other names.

As for lineage, Sanjay Subrahmanyan (MA still lists this Sangeetha Kalanidhi as Subramanian :(), then his two disciples, Prasanna and Sandeep are being featured in the evening slots.

B Suchithra is a disciple of the great Tanjore Kamala Murthy- that itself is enough plus she does okay harikatha and sings okay as well

That is like engineering mechanics paper by one Prof. Lakshmi Narasimhan. He will have the solution laid out in his notes, the most optimal way of solving it and time for each step! He will share that to only to those that go ask him post quiz!

May be this is a satire on election season , mocking the Candidate list selection!

I could count 3 Sangeeta kalanidhis singing and 3 others playing still in evening slots! That is a good sign! :D

Being completely realistic and pragmatic, going by the performers list put out by MMA for 2019 dec, there are only a couple of potential Sangeetha Kalanidhi options. Some assumptions (could be presumptions too) are:
SK has been seen to be awarded predominantly an artiste who is

45-60 AGE BRACKET
1. Currently performing in one of the prime evening slots (AND)
2. Has surpassed a certain level of popularity (AND)
3. Is a major crowd puller (AND)
4. is 45-60 years old (AND)
6. Has not alienated the organization in any significant way / has strong lobbying power
Examples: Sudha Ragunathan, Sanjay Subramanian, Chitravina Ravikiran

(OR)
>60 AGE BRACKET
1. Instrumentalist who has been extraordinary for decades and over 60
2. Vocalist who has been consistently great at least for the past 2 decades(though may not have been a major crowd puller) and is beyond 65-70
Examples: Trichur Ramachandran, TVG Sir, TK Murthy, Umayalpuram Sir, A Kanyakumari, Aruna Sairam (though she is a crowd puller)

Now, I do understand that there are some inherent biases in the above categorization but more or less, I have seen this to be true. Of course, there will be some outliers, but that's what they are, outliers.

Now, if the artiste is <45 years old and singing in the prime slot, they clearly need to wait a bit for the SK please :) So, going by this, I see maximum potential for SK being awarded to:
Among Vocalists & Instrumentalists (who perform solo)
1. Bombay Jayashri
2. Ranjani Gaythri (I know the 45 age bracket may not apply exactly but still, we all know they are current hi-fliers)
3. Malladi Brothers
4. Sowmya
5. Lalgudi Siblings
6. Jayanthi Kumaresh

Among accompanying instrumentalists who have a fair chance,
1. Dr Narmada
2. Dr S Karthik
3. Embar Kannan
4. RK Shriram Kumar

Now, if there are 2 or more ppl of more or less the same age group (within 5 years) who score equally on most parameters, it would be fair to assume that relative seniority might tip the balance in their favor. That way, my guess is

SK 2019: BJ / Lalgudi Siblings are prime contenders
SK 2019: RaGa next
SK 2019: RK Shriram Kumar / Dr Narmada next

Let's see what happens!

A bit new here. How are artists chosen for Senior slots by Academy. I mean, cannot find popular duo like Ganesh-Kumaresh. They are definitely crowd pullers. even not finding senior Mridangist like Karaikudi Mani. Curious to know.

The Schedule has a good mix of Young upcoming, young but already established in the evening slots. All those considered very senior are in the morning slot.Even R Suryaprakash who made his debut concert a couple of yeras ago has now been put in the morning slot.
TN Krishnan legendary Violinist in his 90's is as usual featured on Christmas day.
Those who figured in METwo have not been cleared by Music Academy.
Vijaya Siva is a surprise omission for the fourth year in succession.

Savita Narasimhan used to be featured at Music Academy and that is the only concert she used to sing in the season.Any idea as to why she is missing in Academy list in the last few years?
