And now back to the asampUrna mEla school, with dhunibhinnashadjam being a mouthful of a name for the rAgA equivalent to dhEnukA.
From what is available in the SSP, this rAgA is more non-linear than dhEnukA, and has a curious tendency to skip the M on the descent with lots of PGRS phrases in a rather asAvEri-sh manner. dhATTu phrases are ubiquitous, but the rAgA also goes up and down linearly as well. The G2 also has many possible variations.
There is a kriti of Dikshitar (that does not feature in the SSP), and the only recording I could find of it is this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ssx3LJn6x48 (I don't know who the player is, he has the right idea to bring out the 72 mElakarta kritis of the asampUrNa school, but seriously his kAlapramAnam needs a lot of work - I can't figure out what he's trying at some places)
There is a kriti by Ponnayya (disciple of Dikshitar) in the SSP - Sri guruguha mUrtinikE. But I could not find a recording of it. I'll have to wait. Dr. A, are you reading?
All in all, this rAgA is pretty much extinct, surviving only on paper for now.
