The Age Old Question About LYRICS Requests in the GENERAL DISCUSSIONS Section...

Why, even though it does NOT say LYRICS, Translation of LYRICS, Notations or Chittaswaras for LYRICS, folks end up asking for all the above in General Discussions? In spite of many of us directing them repeatedly to the LYRICS section over the years?
On their part, the new members who need the lyrics, meaning, notations and chittaswarAs see the first heading on the board (without scrolling) and they land there! The General Discussions section already bulges with other threads. Then we realize, they do not look through other threads at all. Since we have a formidable number of lyrics--Lakshman the hanumAn in his zeal for unearthing lyrics, translators supreme, Ravi et al, have made Rasikas.org the most popular place for finding/asking for lyrics.
If only those who are looking for lyrics find the right place to request them!
The alternative is to try and bring the LYRICS section way up, even before Gen Discussions ??:) Well, that might get the order of things a bit mixed up, but how many times have we been (if not the moderators, one of us rasikAs) bringing it to their attention! How the LYRICS volunteers would appreciate it too!

That is why I have established that it is not "lyrics" , it is music! Sahitya!!!

We don't have any philosophy for music. We are philatelists anyways! Nothing to discuss generally. So why not? Just collect away!!

We need to create sub-sections. like
1) lyrics in English transliteration
2) lyrics in the original language
3) meaning of lyrics
4) notations
5) translation
6) other useful links related to the lyrics

and most importantly, a sticky first page in the lyrics section giving links to the respective sections.

You brought up a very important point. It is true that the lyric section is way down. We intend to change that. We'll have to turn it into a request anything section (lyrics, recording, translation, notation, composer, raga, tala, anything else) that is floating at the top somewhere where it is readily visible. Requests gets the maximum posts compared to all other sections by quite a margin. That should get all these requests out of other places.

But if people can't bother to read the global announcement (ironically people started requesting even in that!!), what we've decided is that whenever we log in from time to time, if we find a request anywhere else, it will be moved to the lyrics section right away and we don't owe them an explanation. No mercy.

No mercy, you say. Really? It's all mercy--your trying to make it easy for those who are asking for a favor! If we wish to buy food, we make our way to the grocery store, not the place where they sell appliances. It's as simple as that. We do know that many are
looking for lyrics. Shouldn't they find their way by merely scrolling to get to the LYRICS section? Even those of my kind--with basic, very basic computer skills can (and should) do that. Just once, and presto, you know where to go! Also consider how much of their precious time the active and otherwise very busy rasikAs spend their time on rendering this service!
Meanwhile, what the rest of us can do to help is to let the moderators know if we find a request in any other section of the forum! Hope it gets better

Like that! How LYRIC-al can you get? It's also from that period of film music which I had no access to for many years. Loved seeing MGR opening the suitcase as if by telepathy and look at the photograph. Then I looked at the suitcase. Oh, yes, they used to protect them by making fabric covers for them! Thanks for some vintage footage:)
