pallavi
karuNA nidhiyE tAyE kaDaikkaN pArttaruLvAyE

Oh repository (nidhiyE) of compassion (karuNA), Oh mother (tAyE), please bless (me) (aruLvAyE) by looking (pArttu) at me from the corner of your eyes (kaDaikkAN).

anupallavi
aruNOdayam kaNDAl agalum pani iruLpOl
(madhyamakAlam)
annai undan aruL irundAl aganriDumE puN bhava-nOi en parama (karuNA nidhiyE...)

Just as (pOl) dew (pani) and darkness (iruL) disappear (agalum) when we behold (kaNDAl) the sunrise (aruNOdayam), so too, festering (puN) worldly illnesses (bhava nOi) will disappear (aganriDumE) if your (undan) grace (aruL) is present (irundAl), Oh mother (annai). My (en) supreme (parama) (repository of compassion, please bless me by looking at me from the corner of your eyes)

caraNam
unai maRandu en vAzh nALil oru kaNamum irundaRiyEnE
anai maRandiLam SiSu uNDO avvaNam unai nambinEn nAnE
manam ninainda anbarai ALa mayilai vanda karpagam nIyE
enadu pizhai poruttaruLAyEl ini Edu tuNai mEdiniyil mAdumaiyE (karuNA nidhiyE...)

I am not aware (aRiyEnE) of having existed (irundu) for even a single (oru) moment (kaNamum) in my (en) lifetime (vAzh nALil) where I have forgotten (maRandu) you (unai). Is there (uNDO) a young (iLam) child (SiSu) who can forget (maRandu) (its) mother (annai)? Along those same lines (avvaNam), I (nAnE) have believed (nambinEn) in you (unai).
You (nIyE) are the wish-granter (kaRpakam) who has come to/appeared in (vanda) Mylapore (mayilai) to admit to your divine grace and rule over (ALa) devotees (anbarai) who have thought (ninainda) (of you) in their minds (manam). So, my lady (madu), umA dEvi (umaiyE), if (you) are not able to tolerate (poruttu) my (enadu) faults (pizhai) and shower your grace (aruLAyEl) (on me), then, at this time (ini) what other (Edu) support (tuNai) do I have on this earth (mEdiniyil)? (Oh repository of compassion, please bless me by looking at me from the corner of your eyes).
