i am surprised u found similarities between the two, but for the fact that they are both sung in madhyama sruthi.

punnAgavarALi is a janyA of tODi

8 hanumatODi janya
Aa: N2 , S R1 G2 M1 P D1 N2
Av: N2 D1 P M1 G2 R1 S N2 ,

An ancient rAga
scope: shines by cowka kAla prayOgas jIva: ri, ga in ArOhana, ri and ni in avarOhana
anya swaras: low N3, also R2 in ArOhana

Popular in such songs as the snakr charmer's maguDi (also in a rAga known as mODi). The tune Odam is from this rAga and folk tunes nonDicindu are often sung in this rAga

nAdanAmakriyA is a janyA or mAyAmALavagauLa and in layman terms said to be MMG itself in madhyamasruti.
