Superb concert yesterday. Wonderfully emotive Ahiri and Behag. And they played their main right - an audience of above 1000 people invariably will have a majority of casual listeners rather than experts who inhabit this forum. So better to feature a classic as the main instead of an obscure raga or a complex RTP (both of which have been more the norm ). Why they suddenly did a short thanam beats me though !
Post main, they sang Vande Mataram, Hanuman Bhajan - Janani Main Ramdoot Hanuman, an abhang and concluded with the mangalam. They along with Ranjani/Gayathri have become the main draws of the season, although none can replace the Yesudas concerts ( a classic carnatic concert; not film music) of yester years, when a whole contingent of traffic police was usually required to control the traffic and the crowd and you had to go half an hour in advance to secure a seat in a 1500 + capacity pandal !
