April is a dry month usually it is bone dry for CM , barring some trickle in ragasudha hall or may be unknown not usually published madhuradhwani there is concert . I think roughly 6 to 8 years back the kapali temple organize a series of concerts with thamizh months as days where say every thamizh month 5 to 6 concerts are held . There was a series and i just had a chance to hear this RKM concert
Kapali temple is a brilliant setting, yes there is way too many floating crowd . Personally heard two memorable ones one Abhishek and another Vijay siva and few more whom i am forgetting now all this happened may be prior to Covid. Concert could have started on time but got delayed due to unwanted delay and possibly too much of sound adjustments
The start in kedaragowlai was well done , konjam vocal voice in the house was not right , that got adjusted .Bowli as #2 with the most popular vaggeyakkara of mylapore did start with a bit of bowli drizzle . Sindhuramakriya is a tricky raga for me to conveniently box with conviction , RKM did sing well
Some krithis and some ragas give intense classicism and depth and hooray it was a lovely Kharaharapriya ragam , what a krithi is navasiddhi petraalum what a choice of words and raga muse RKM did exceptionally well . Chalanattai is a lovely ragam , i only think of this krithi edaya gati and illayaraja pani vizhum malarvanam , hey the hueness of chalanattai is a bit of drag and gives a very different musical feel
If bowli was a drizzle there was a great downpour of mylapour sivan , what a krithi is kaana kannn vendum, evalo Words but still evalo kambOdhi , how did he describe so much of the temple mylapore and yet retain so much of classical oomph. We all have to take a bow to the magnificence of both sivans papanasam and neelakanta to challenge musically thyagaraja in their home grown ragas of stormbodhi and khara hooray Priya.
Tail winded bit like KVN with the eppa varuvaro jonpuri not the more popular mmi jonpuri . The last viruththam was well done with a lovely garland or ragas . Personally liked the jump to the chandrachooda in darbari another great composition. The joy of sindhubhairavi apara karuna is nice one can mistake that as a tiruppugazh
HN Bhaskar is the senior most of the team and he showed how capable he was in giving sound quality and melodic hues like his paramaguru MSG. What a joy was Bharadwaj lot of taps were more of his first guru Parampara Karaikudi mani with some good flair of his present guru UKS in giving at times a bit of gumkhi touches. HE surely lifted few weeks back i heard Praveen sparsh and now i heard NC Bharadwaj all these youngsters are going to be talked way too much in next 30 to 40 years for sure.
I hope more temples take up like mylai and carry forward this lovely tradition , after all sabhas are going down , temples can bring more crowd and also keep financials low as the spending audience is dwindling.
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours and 20 mins.
