Re: Shruthi Shankar Kumar@Carnatica Paddhati on Jan 04th,2026
This is the first time i am hearing this vidushi in a live concert . Few weeks when i attended a lecdem in partha on voice culture , she was assisting briefly the presenter. I just googled to find shruthi is the disciple of Delhi Sundarrajan at present for many years and possibly before that with Palghat Rajaram.
In first place one has to congratulate in the last 4 plus years where carnatica and Parthaswami sabha are organizing concert which is just closest to tirumayilai station .Quite honestly i like this sabha for not just proximity and also there is no useless air conditioning , morning suits me a lot on sat/sun and i liked this hyper count of concerts in season
Shruthi has surely sampradaya suddham, her voice was clear with nice enunciation . Abhogi start was well done with a round of swaras this composition of NS Ramachandran is quite a head turner . IIRC NS Ramachandran stayed somewhere in Jamshedpur or something and this composition came to existence thru Maharajapuram Santhanam is my best guess (not MLV though she also sings). Asaveri sharanam sharanam is a very emotive krithi she did so well, you can open ones voice in full throttle in anupallavi and charanam and gently anchor back to sharanam to give so much of asaveri rasa. She did for most part
Sub main was lathangi and it was evident from the start , no Kalyani or pantuvarali boundary confusion. She sang well with neraval being a better highlight , konjam she lost a bit of steam in swaras. ABheri /bhimplas and devagandharam are different .I think even Karnataka devagandhari is also different from devagandharam or is it the same , another Santhanam popularized MD Krithi kAyArohanesam was well done , few lines she could have gone bit slower and repeated to give more distilled feel .Filler had two rounds of cittaswaras and she did well
TOdi todi todi is chasing me as a main. It is perhaps not my best 6 big raga may be top 3 to 4 , todi is moving up. It is indeed a beautiful to form an impression for me to hear any artist for the first time . KadannuvAriki krithi belongs to mainly GNB , avalo SPeed illa , but she did well with a balance of swaras and neraval . I felt she can improve bit more in vocal muscle . One thing is when say mrudangam and kanjira play simultaneously , vocalist has to have more dynamic muscle to overturn and push the percussion to the background . SKR hari guna in dipali is an emotive number and i liked her choice . She was obedient and finish dot 2 hours , next half sari vidushi was waiting for her concert
Bombay Madhavan needs some special mention. He is only in the Chennai circuit in recent years . I think many artists feature him across the spectrum , one prime reason I think is that he does not intrude during vocal rendition. Anusaranai at its best . HE is not a youngster , i dont know who is his Guru , Can some one help with a post. HIs smile and encouragement is infectious . Can i also assume he is now settled in madras . HE plays with nice touch and never overshoots in pakkavadhya dharmam
B Ganapathyraman is a sensitive and intelligent player . I felt konjam aggression could have helped more he did well and guided the main artist very well. The seasoned KVG came with controlled aggression , their tani was measured and a copy book style tani . The sound system of this place is done well and the sound technician does the job in a very professional way . Kudos to Carnatica and Parthasarathy sabha for giving lot of artist a slot, particularly on a working day their concert start at 7PM IST is extremely useful.
Overall a very good to excellent concert for 2 hours
