Personally I have my own personal parameters to hear liveconcerts , my own constraints of that day to travel as a qualifying criteria and Also I wanted to also hear and see how a new sabha/center is taking up patronage of CM in madras . It is sad that we lost CCA(NCA) and in recent years not sure how the super sabha Mudhra is functioning, they only one day award . That is two big sabhas not featuring concerts . Also BGS in Sivakami petachi has folded and they are just sharing the hall with RR Sabha . IN that context This Sastra Satsangh is a godsend patronage center to hear and see live CM . This hall is fabulous , one of the best acoustics and the seats and AC are kind of assembling the Rani Seethai Hall where you can have best sound experience . Also it is far away from the overcrowded Carnatic heavy fortress with dwindling strength halls of mylapore and mambalam . Kudos to this SASTRA college and management to sponsor and feature concerts like the faded CCA/Mudhra sabhas.
THis vidwan Ramnath Bhagavath is young ,he may be in the age group of a abhishek/RKM to abilash/Bharathsundar .I am assuming Sikkil gurucharan is his annA, i see for many years Ramnath went outside to study in USA/UK and Canada. I initially got acclimatized with some social media link where he gave a small lecdem about illayaraja(God OF MUsic) whom I adore and also in general he writes a lot of songs and viruththam. At times he took some daring line and sings as a pallavi. There is some novely and unprententious approach is what i thought . Whatever i spotted in online was enough for me to hear him in a live concert atleat once. IN general i usually go and hear any one atleast once , i came out more than extremely satisfied with Ramnath Bhagavath .
The only reason i was extremely satisfied is because at no point he lost the Carnatic classical paddhati idiom in this concert.I atleast mapped him to say half or one full generation senior musicians like Suryaprakash (visceral and onspot creativity) ,sanjay like (cerebral approach to test with novelty) and vijaysiva (nice grounded diction)
THe start was fantastic, nattai is always a great number and saraseeruha has a boatload of swaras and i got that along with a nice racy style . KamAs gives joy that too when sung with a gentle reminder of ganakaladhara Madurai mani ,more than seethapathE the second half of prema juchi napai with swaras was a fantastic Drop #2. It is 2 hours concert , even 15 mins extra will do wonder <<Attn Sastra can you not consider from next year till 08 :45 instead of 08:30 Please>> . I liked his next alapana that was very detailed and had right depth and emote , kalyanavasantham alapana had so much charm and I guessed is nAdalOludai going to be coming next and indeed nAdalOludai came and had intense classicism with swaras. Amrithavarshini with just plain ennai nee maravAdE without swaras was bit a let down feeling , but hey ok 2 hours concert

Usually if musicians have concerts in big sabhas and then a smaller satellite sabha , they generally bring up hameerkalyani in a smaller satellite sabha . FOr this musician rest of his concerts were much smaller with mostly afternoon slots, but he bringing up hameerkalyani as a main was a daring choice . This ragam goes with few repetitions , i would have wished he taking a raga that usually does not have that much repetition << say some big 6 or kapi or kanada or madhyamati or Poorvi/Panthuvarali would have given more experience to know his depth>>, but hey he did perform well with hameerkalyani. THe neraval and swaras were intense and he did well
THe next viruththam was a bit of big big head turner.He said some thing like I write a lot of viruththa songs but however he said he wants to sing this from kattalai kalithurai , i just googled briefly to see that is yaapu ,he said he will tell the phrases and meaning and he also he embedded the ragas and asked the audience to catch it . WE all in the audience of few hundered plus said Samantha , vasantha, todi and begada was tough and he also said the meaning.HE did not drag and made it as a lecdem and then he sang this passion and ended with karnaranjani of the famous ambujam Krishna krithi Om Namo Narayana.
THe violinist is young and i dont know her guru. Her proportion for kalyanavasantham was way too long but she had great melody and Sruthi suddham . Srinidhi is seen and heard for the first time . I have seen but never heard ghatam Karthik son sarvesh .Sarvesh was brilliant , complete mastery on the proceedings. IN the last 5 years we are having extremely high quality mrudangam artist , sarvesh is surely one . The other ghatam artist is also new to me,sainath and he played very well . Tani was quite a bit of fireworks, when the first round of patterns was done by sarvesh i thought this is going to be a way too long tani , but it was reduced from successive rounds to give more air time for the lovely multi ragamaliga viruththam
The last chinnan jiru pennpOle is something i would prefer him to avoid .I do know singing songs from sirgazhi/mkt etc have a bit of demerit, even few stars his senior had done and had to be careful . There is a chance that he would be branded away from the core circle alwarpet-mylapore-mambalam mafia and more importantly key sabha patrons that ramnath is not that deep in Carnatic. Personally it is ok for me , but i still would have preferred after a thamizh viruththam and song say a song like utsava sampradaya T krithi/ PD /GKB intense carnatic one , as this seergazhi popularized one has its own perils. This is just a long term suggestion as his age group was way too crowded with vidushis and vidwans.
All said looking forward to hear this lovely vidwan he can swim along his age group of RKM/Bharathsundar etal . He has the approach of 3 musicians as i stated before - the mix of visceral and onspot creativity,cerebral approach to test with novelty and nice grounded diction. At no point i lost the core classical carnatic intensity and i did not get any god damn fusion feel .Thank you all four new artists and also the sabha for holding well past Jan 01st week(would love to see 15 mins sanctioned extra from Dec 2026) . Some one said as i left Ramnath wife is the tambura player.
Overall an excellent concert for 2 hours
