I wonder why Sabhas do not encourage and engage a very creative artist like Vislakshi Nityanand. Every time I hear her on the radio or at a concert I find that she is a very creative and original singer. Heard her at Narada gana sabha yesterday and it was great listening. Hope those in charge of the various Sabhas will take note.

I did not know about Visalakshi Nityanand either. I found her songs at MOI: http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/c ... /album.20/
One bonus is, in another thread we wondered if Karpagavallinin has been sung by anyone else except TMS. This song is in this album.
At one level, her voice or method of phrasing reminded me of Aruna Sairam.
I do not know what you considered as creative and original but this bharathi song in Pantuvarali started off like any other and quickly got into quite a powerful expression of the lyrics and maintained that grip throughout the song: http://www.musicindiaonline.com/p/x/W4p ... As1NMvHdW/

Yes. The latest trend is to marginalise some good singers who have magic only in music and don't push themselves into the arena of high profile marketing and corporate hobnobbing blitz. The current buzzword is "Become a nuveau riche, use your parents'/spouse's contacts and your manipulative skills to get the required sponsorship and arm twist Sabha Secretaries or the behind-the-scene percussionists who fix artists for the respective Sabhas. Once a platform is ready, invite all your near and dear and bring them along to the concert and place them at strategic seats so that they begin clapping when you dish out your musical wares knowing fully well that the herd mentality rasikas would follow suit. Next step is get worthy critics to write about you in strategic dailies and tamil magazines, organise a few awards for oneself and in course of time Lo and Behold Lady Luck will then keep smiling upon you and cause a stir among top-notch musicians.
The standard one-liner by Sabha Secretaries to not so pushy and 'lucky' artists would be "How can we keep giving the same artists every year. We have to give opportunites to other 'talented' artists. We shall see next year". The vicious cycle continues....
Solution: This trend can only be broken by discerning member-rasikas who should demand a Board Meeting wherein they should discuss artists to be given chance. So before the artists are fixed for the December season or other vital seasons, a Board Meeting and Stake Holders meetings, like being done in the corporate sector, must be called for. Members who have good knowledge of Carnatic Music must chip in to discuss threadbare all the artists and only really deserving artists must be allowed to perform. The rule implemented for less lucky artists must be applied to all irrespective of clout and popularity. One set of artists who perform one year must not be given chance the next year. Let all deserving candidates perform alternate years so that there is equality. If this can be done, then Carnatic Music in the purest sense can be preserved otherwise patrons and rasikas would be herd-led to doom by self serving individuals (all players involved)

i saw this post only now while scanning new items. i was just thinking why some artists are not in the limelight as much as the popular artists and it seems there is more in it than music! well incidently Sankari Krishnan is also one such artist who deserves better as I found out a couple of days back.

Hope RS stands for Ragasudha and not Rajyasabha.
A percussionist once lamented that in RS the priority is for artists from Kerala i.e min.Palghat.
I saw the original post just now.The main reason for the herd instinct is due to lack of quality rasikas.
Except a very few the rasikas esp.those writing long and very long reviews in rasikas.org are charlatans who can't even put a simple oru kalai adhi thalam or no knowledge about for e.g which is the gandharam for a basic MMG.
They use this forum for self gratification supportd by equally calibered fans of them.In such a circumstance how can you expect quality in music ?
Bharathiyar wrote " mella Tamizh ini chaahum " ( Tamizh will have a slow death ) which is happening. This applies to CM also. With the type of the majority of the rasikas in our forum it is sure to happen beyond doubt.

RVedavalli, AmrithaMurali, SugunaV, RamaRavi & NandithaRavi, SumitraV, SubhashriV, AishwaryaVidyaRaghunath, VenkataNagarajan, VivekSadasivam, BrindaManickavasagam, AishwaryaShankar, RamakrishnanMurthy, SruthiRavaliManda, AshwinAnand, etc. is a sample featured in RS Hall. Are these all palghat/mallu folks?
Don't selectively quote bhArathiyar. IIRC, the full quote is "mellath thamizh ini sAgum enRandhap pEdhai uraiththAn"
