Dear Friends,

Is there somewhere a list of songs sung by the various artists this december season? I understand the list has to be under constant revision. Please help.

Thanks,
Shishypariya

That's a huge task Shishyapriya considering that there are more than 2000 concerts this season

A huge task, indeed. A team from DePauw University undertook such an effort in 2003. With 20 people, they managed to cover just 15% of the concerts. The results are still very impressive and interesting:

I suspect the rasikas.org forum can outdo this - with 3000+ members, we should be able to cover more than 300 concerts even if not all members are in Chennai...

It's a perfectly good question. I for one would welcome such a database of songs rendered (the 2003 effort is very informative). It's just that there's considerable work involved.

I do think the collective efforts of this forum can create a very large sample - last year this forum had what felt like hundreds (certainly many dozens) of reviews with song lists. This year should be even more rewarding.

If you (or another member) could create the 2007 "songs rendered" database, please do post it here.

Two options are possible
====================

1) Yahoo Groups
--------------------

One dirty and simple way is to create a yahoo group. Yahoo group has a facility for a simple database

http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/groups ... eb-28.html

The limit is 10 tables in a group, 1000 rows + 10 columns per table

A sample database can be

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Main Artist Accompanists Song Raga Tala Composer
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rasikas have to become members and post the details though :D

Once the data has been entered and ready, the data can be exported. There are enough experts in the group who can then convert it to a presentable and usable format.

2) Google Spreadsheet
-----------------------------

http://spreadsheets.google.com

We can create a spreadsheet and collaboratively update the spreadsheet.

If someone has any other idea more easily manageable that is also welcome. Otherwise, if there is enough interest in either 1 or 2, I am ready to start the process, by entering the concert already in this forum.
