Raji's scintillating SUMADHYUTHI - MFA concert 14.12.07

SCINTILLATING SIMHENDRAMADHYAMAM
Ever since her promotion to the evening slot at the MFA, RAJEE has made her intentions clear.and vivid.
by giving a sumptuous feast to the Rasikas" discerning ears through her unforgettable performance.
The entire audience were kept spell-bound throughout the 3 1/2 hours .Though the entire list has not been jotted down by me and I request some of our fellow folks can do it for me, I confine my observations to the star category items in the menu.
Starting her sojourn with the legendary VIRIBHONI VARNAM, and Thyagaraja's Nattai master piece, (NinnEBhajana )came next.
Her sub main was the Star of the evening .(ie) the soul-stirring Alaap.in Sumadhyudhi and Kamakshi kamakpoti peeta vasini was the Kriti that followed.Both the kriti and alaap by both the main artist and the accompanist (G.chandramouli were note worthy.
The Kalkada piece PARVATHY NINU was deftly handled.Here a particular mention has to be made in respect of her penchant for rendering ViVadhi Ragas in particulars.I have heard some Vidwans ' rendering the raga delination in a way that would suggest Malayarumatham, perhaps due to their aversion for the Vivadhi swara .!!! But Raji, as is her wont, sang tjhe way it should be sung.
Even a lighter Raga like Saraswathy can be dealt with weighty punches and the RTP that followed stood testimony to her vidwat .She adequately displayed in every aspect of her musical prowess that she has the penchant and verve to prove that she does not belong to one particular school and all the essential ingredients of both yester stalwarts(ViZ)MLV, GNB, MS,Volety MMi, Ramnad Krish. and of the living legends Nedunuri and TRS. are cleverly adopted by her . I am not mincing words.
One has to listen to believe.
The concluding piece inPRIYADHARSHINI SannidhiyE sadha Vendinen with viruttam preceding , was rendered with emulative /emotive dedication.
Altogather , a memorable concert in deed

Sumadhyuthi/Simmendramadyamam - Both names bear the same number of melakartha (57) surprisingly. Another MK immediately comes to my mind is the Ist one Kanakangi / KanakAmbari.

Hallo Sindhu, You are correct.
Sim.Madhyamam and sumadhyuthi are one and the same .As per the kaDapayadi sankhy M.Kartha scheme it is known as Sim,Madhyamam and as per the Venkata mahi, school of thought it is known as sumadhyudhi. which has other names too.(1)SESHANADHAM (2) AND SEEMANDHINI
