I could not resist posting this.. Jealous of our Chennai friends ..!!

Vocal : G Ravikiran

Violin : Charulatha Ramanujam

Mrudangam : Vid Manjunath

Ghatam : Srishyla

Heritage Adademy , Koramangala 16th Dec.

If it is raining concerts in Chennai, we had our share of drizzle yesterday. Sri G.Ravikiran gave a superb concert at the Heritage Academy hall ( Nadasurabhi Monthly concerts). A very matured and intelligent concert , well supported by the accompanying artists.

01 sarasUDa ( varNam) - sAvEri - Kothavasal Venkatramayyar

02 rAmA nI pai ( O,S ) - kEdAram - Thyagaraja

03 lEkana ninnu - asAvEri - Thyagaraja

04 varAmulO sakhi ( A,N,S ) - kIravANi - Patnam Subramanya Iyer

neraval and swara @ ‘parama dayAkara sugunA’

I can be biased about keeravani. Notwithstanding that, Ravikiran gave a beautiful presentation of this krithi. Alapana, neraval and swara were very good.

05 srI rAma ravikula - nArAyaNa gaula - Muthuswami Dikshitar

06 pArvathi ninnu - kalgaDa - Shyama Shastry

07 srI subramnyAya namastE ( A,N,S,T) - kAmbOji - Muthuswami Dikshitar

Neraval and swara @ ‘vAsavAdi sakaladEva vandita‘

This was the master piece of the evening. Amazing build up of the raga , a detailed neraval and to classy finish. All the team excelled in their department and gave a stupendous performance. The tani avartanam was also of top class. Vid Manjunath - I’m attending his concert for the first time - gave a thrilling display of his caliber accompanied by Srishyla.

08 viruttam - ragamalika - ?

shabda brahmamayi characharamayi - Anandabhairavi

nityAnandamayi - shaNmukhapriya

tatvAteethamayi - sahAna

sarvaiswaryamayi - hamIr kalyANi

8A shAradE karuNAnidhe - hamIr kalyANi - Sringeri Swamigal ( as announced by Ravikiran )

09 sarvam brahmamayam - bhAgEshri - Sadashiva Brahmendra

11 thillAna - pUrNachandrika ? ( tOm tOm tOm) -

I'm interested in knowing about the mrudangam artist. Is he from Bangalore ? Who is his Guru ?

Thanks for your post, Braindrain. I was also keen to attend this one. But, considering that the total travel time would be greater than the concert duration, I opted otherwise! A very fine set of young artists indeed.

Vid Manjunath is the son and disciple of Shri B.K. Chandramouli.
They run the Mookambika percussion college at Rajajinagar, Bangalore.

And I thought I had a job that involed a lot of travel! Anyway, hope you have a good season and will try to see if I can take a break from work and make it to one of your upcoming concerts...
