I had to leave the concert during this RTP. The concert was not upto the mark of Tiruchur's class because his voice was not co-operating throughout the concert. The thani avarthanam was extremely good by UKS.

I heard from few of my friends who had high expectation from TR, were deceived. My close friend who is a Mridanga vidwan shockinly told that he made a MISTAKE in RtP. "He started the pallavi in 3 Kalai and while Tisra Naai, he moved to Chatusram and made a mess of that Pallavi". UKS did not know and completedly emabarassed". I don't know whether I put the quotes correctly since Iam bit poor " thalakkattu". He was away from "sruthi" throughout the concert. But the Kalyani-Kumbeswara of MD, the neraval was excellant-I was told.

jnssnsdoonysm- Thank you for your comments. You cannot make a mistake in MA, such an experienced person, whom Iam recommending for Prime Slot.
GNB must have had a bad day but NOT in sruti or "Tappu talam".
I also know he is Padma Bhushan and he will be conferred an award today at RK Swamy auditorium by evergreen Nalli Kuppuswamy.
A mistake by an eminent musician is an insult to his Guru. This will not be told to junior/upcoming artist.
If you think Iam an insult, let me continue. If the moderator of this site tells me to stop, I will. Do not expect me to review all the concerts as Superb concerts... Sorry.

grsastrigal - WAKE UP, man. Musicians are human and entitled to off days. Granted, MA is the prime and most visible stage of carnatic music and making a mistake there can have adverse consequences, but please remember that artistes are people too before making such ridiculous statements like "An insult to his Guru". Sri TVR is a veteran artiste who has produced brilliant music many a time over the years. Have some respect for the man's hard work and vidwat.grsastrigal wrote:You cannot make a mistake in MA, such an experienced person, whom Iam recommending for Prime Slot.
"I am recommending for Prime Slot" - your recommendation is, quite frankly, worthless, on the basis of the posts you have made here.

GRS,
I tend to agree with Vijay & Prashant . As a Rasika , one must know how to express an opinion without hurting. I have gone through most of your posts which are very interesting. However one thing you must do is to temper your comments. As a suggestion , just before you hit the submit button , read again , and put youself in other rasikas shoes and see if your comments will hurt. If so pls modify suitably without loosing out on what you want to say.
BTW , rasikas of the older generation will remember that GNB for all his genius used to have his off days too. After all Musicians are humans !
I disagree with Jnasooniyam. GRS has a different view point , thats it..

As Cienu says GNB was known to have the occasional trouble with sruthi so is he an insult to his guru as well? BY that logic everyone is. I am very pained to see such absurd statements being made about a brilliant artist who was known for his loyalty and service to GNB
GRS please tone down - to the extent you say you are dissatisfied with TVR's performance, it is fine but there is no need to make inferences beyond what happened in the concert.

Sastrigal, konjam tone down!
Anyway, keep your reviews coming...they are entertaining to read. Another question: how come TVR's n'th time repeat of RTP in Natabhairavi was not caught and bowled by you?
