Could not find a thread for her, I listened to some of her songs in her album, and she looks very promising. My wife thinks she has very good potential in future. Initiating a thread for her critical reviews and tours. What do other rasikas think of this artist ?
her website is : http://www.charulathamani.com/

I hink the website implies her current guru is Sandhyavandanam Shri S. Poorna Pragna Rao who is son of above mentioned person. I myself dont know either of these and dont care much for gurus. I simply mentioned her in a thread because the songs are very good.

There are press reviews in the same website you cite
http://www.charulathamani.com/press/mus ... _press.php

I dont read reviews myself. factual documentation like songlists are far more meaningful.

Yesterdays friday review has details of her isai paiyanam cooncert

She is a good singer - but not excessively appealing - her marketing/publicity puts her above her peers - who may even be better than her - gnanam wise!

i got the impression she was among the less covered singers in the hindu. this season i didnt see any review of charulata or master balamurli or suryaprakash. kids who are probably still in school seem to be having their concerts reviewed godknows why. i am not sure of what is defined gnyanam but i think it should show in the singing and not in reviews or reputation or lipservice to sampradayam etc.
i think singers with good voices like charulata, gurusharan, suryaprakash are popular for good reason. singers who dont draw listeners there is some reason (mostly)

Just an observation...I thought that the Isai PayaNam program will be popular with and attended by younger people. But when the camera panned to the audience, the audience seems to be the typical CM concert audience.

Have any of you been to her concerts of this format? What are your impressions?

the ngs concert during weekend had kids running around and some of them were recruited by the singer for the quiz prize distribution. i understand parents may find it convenient to bring them along but they shouldnt be running around. but i suppose it is good they are exposed to concerts.

As with GS Mani when CM is judiciously mixed with FM it will be enormouusly popular. I have to admit that CMani has a very pleasant way of presenting the material. Her enthusiasm is infectious! No wonder the older folks who have seen the old movies flock to her program to get informed about the CM association of those film songs. In fact P Sivan first became popular only because of his Tamil Movie CM songs which had to be sung as thukkadas in every concerts in those days. The time is still ripe for a very CM oriented Movie and more than likely C Mani will be enormously succeessful with her talents in marketing it !

How many of us here, agree that Marketing tactics play a role in popularity of artists? Not all good artists are getting their due nowadays. One gets to hear many senior Musicians lamenting 'Gone are the days when Sabha secretaries run behind artists.' Its the other way round - Artists run behind Secretaries/Presidents. What should be the criterion for selecting artists for sabhas? what is the role played by NRI's in this? These issues need to be addressed by members here.

From the perspective of the sabha, the artists who bring in greater crowds I would assume!
