Neela Ramgopal's concert was superb. Her concert is meant more for those who know the intricacies of music and not really for the lay listener. She appeals to a mature audience . Her Sahana was indeed a delight to the ears and which all aspiring students of serious music should listen to. Inspite of belonging to the older generation she has a never say die attitudeand still has a capacity to take on today's youthful brigade head on. She does not believe in cutting corners which we should take note of.:)[

yes, Raji
It was a great concert and showed how music is above all considerations of age, voice, et al. Her sahana really stood out. I can;t say the same of the Sarasangi alapana-- had great phrases but some 'pidis' too reminiscent of Charukesi. Mami sure is an inspiration!

Such a fine concert--pity, I had to leave when she was singing that lilting Shanmukapriya. The kuzhaivu in her singing was very pleasing.
Her CetulAra was first class. Her sahAnA had such fine touches.
Veterans did extremely well this year (hurray!) and Neela has always been on my ' must hear' list.
I met Anusha there and two other forumites from Bangalore--a student of Neela and her mother. Please post the complete song list and your impressions...

3. Maanamu kaavalenu talli-Sahana-Rupaka-(A,S)-Mutthaiah Bhagavatar
4. Dayaraani dayara nee - Mohanam-Khanda Chapu-Tyaagaraja

8. Viruttam-Begada,Saveri,Behaag
9. Tillana -Behaag-Adi,Tishra nadai

Corrections and additions welcome. There was a lot of clarity in swaram rendering. Like others, I found Sahana to be the most catchy piece - mainly the alapanai and swarams, the kriti was new to me. I was somewhat preoccupied, couldn't concentrate much in the later part of the concert esp. during the pallavi.

It was a pleasure meeting Arasi-ji, and also a few of the other members later at the forum meet.

The Mahaganapati song was in Amritavahini I think and a composition of Mysore Maharaja. Her swarams were very good and the treatment of the raga was rather bright, unlike the better known Sri Rama padama, I thought.
