Confess I've been too busy listening away to glory to read or post reviews--- its been so delightfully hectic!
What an amazing musician RKS is! His voice is so strong and sruti aligned, its incredible at his age! His Saveri was full of beauty. One only wishes his son wouldn't croon along-- its so terribly distracting and detracting from the melody... UKS was a delight, as usual. Only, he insisted on Ramakanth doing an extended kuraippu in the Saveri song after RKS had concluded it.....
Many were amazed by his performance. Yes, I enjoyed it too. Yet, having heard him several times in concert, whether it be a temple or a demo (you should have heard him sing sAvEri as he did once in Ananya in bangalore in a two day sAvEri demo!), he excels in his presentation.
Yes, I felt too that Ramakant needn't have sung to that extent.
The concert started late because they had to rearrange the stage for Srikantan (needing a chair to sit on) and to make two separate platforms on either side for the accompanists. It seemed as though the Academy did not make a note of it ahead of time. It was the first concert of the day and they could have easily done it all ahead of time. The lack of arrangements and the delay might have worried the veteran.I also felt that Nagai could have been a bit more enthusiastic. Is it possible that he wasn't that keen on playing for the son, or was it just that he was tired?
I was happy to hear that Srikantan gave a tremendous performance at Carnatica's Swamy Hall concert. Wish I had been there too....
