I thought it was derived from kIrvANi (21st mELa). The late kalkaTTa KS kr.shNamUrti gave life to this rAga by composing the music for svAmi surAjAnanda's "rukmiNIpatE," with a wonderful ciTTasvara.

SANNIDHIYE SADHAA VENDINEN MAATAANIN (SANNIDHIYE)
The same was rendered by Smt.Raji Gopalakrishnan also.

I think Sudha Ragunathan has also rendered a krithi 'Rukminipathe' in the same ragam. It is commercially available. To my knowledge she sang an alapana and sang the same krithi at Parthasarathy Sabha during the december 2006 season.
