Senior Vidwans not featured in the Season - Forgotten?

I am starting this thread to discuss senior muscians who were not or rarely featured in the music season .

The names that come to mind are :
Manakkal Rangarajan : He had performed a few concerts before the season but nothing in the season. Would it not have been appropriate for the Music Academy and a few Major Sabhas to invite him to sing in their morning slots (normally meant doe senior vidwans) ? Atleast some way of undoing the past . Maybe Sriram can throw some light in case of any personal reasons.
Prof R Vishweshwaran : This vainika who played in the Akashwani Sangeeth Sammelan is a very senior vidwan representing the gamaka style - His playing is very much like the great SB .
K S Gopalakrishnan : In my personal opinion I consider him the best flautist ever after the inimitable TRM. I am aware he was not keeping good health last year (2006) after passing away of his wife (IIRC) . Can someone tell us about him?
He has never been featured in the Season in the recent past (4-5 years).
Chengalper Ranganathan : I know he has one concert this season (Naada Inbam ?)

The others whom I can recall are are Bangalore Shankar, Neyantikkara Vasudevan, Nookula Chinna Satyanarayana, RK Padmanabha, Maharajapuram Nagarajan Vainikas Ananthapadmanabhan, Ranganayaki Rajagopalan and Rajeshwari Padmanabhan

Anyone who has pointers to any of these artists please post the views.

Kudos to Carnatica and Naada Inbam for getting some of the senior musicians to perform this season :

Kalpagam Mami
Trivandrum Venkatraman (he did perform at MA)
V V Subramaniam

I saw a sabha giving concert slot to a vidwan to promote his grand children on the pretext of singing Tamil krithis on Lord Rama, watched by mainly his family and associates,

May be next year Carnatica / Naada Inbam can exclusively feature a festival for senior vidwans. It will give an opportunity to many rasikas to see these maestros live and can be used to tape their performances and preserve the heritage.

Hallo Venkat r as u rightly put in detail , some of the senior vidwans /vidhushis can be accommodated by Sabhas other than the ones with a Big Banner behind tham.In this aspect NADHA INBAM, CARNATICA, SHRI RANJINI, MUSIC EDUCATION TRUST,MUSIC CONNOSIEURS CLUB, SARASWATHY VAGEYAKARA TRUST, have all done yeoman service to the cause of promoting CM in their own humble way.I may Kindly be excused if I have inadvertantly left over some sabhasin the list.

Ramaraj,

I think the Vishweshwaran you are referring to is the husband of Danseuse Chitra Vishweshwaran - more a Hindusthani musician. I am referring to Prof Vishweshwaran hailing from Karnataka , a self taught Veena vidwan . He played at the Sangeeth Sammelan a couple of months back before invited audience in Calicut. Hope there is no comedy of errors on my part here !

there is also a general feeling that bangalore based vidwans, vidhshis, instrmentalists percussion artists are neglected by chennai sabhas, especially during the december season . at this rate itis worthwhile considering whether a temporary organization can be started for dec not only for the neglected senior vidwans but musicians from bangalore , kerala etc .an utopian dream ! gobilalitha

This year At MA, it was said to have accommodated Karnataka based vidwans widely. But how far it worked out while coming to real terms.
Our Prof.TRS has given ample chances to Mysore based artists.

Prof R Vishwewaran is one of the Mysore Brothers - I beleive that's whay they were called. One of the brothers is the very well known musicologist Prof R Satyanarayana. I do not know who the other two brothers are.

Did KSG(K.S. Gopalakrishnan) ever perform in Madras at all? I read from an older thread that he doesn't give concert in Madras/Chennai as a matter of personal choice.

Some of our talented mucisisans have conveniently avoided performing in Chennai for reasons best known to vested interests and the primary reason is not far to seek.P O L I T I C S and nothing else.

venkat, Chingleput Ranganathan is singing at raga sudha on jan 16th, the valedictory day of their margazhi series. Ranganayaki Rajagopalan is pretty old and has retired from performing since a few years. KSG doesnt play in madras by choice. Trivandrum venkatraman played at Raga Sudha and MA.
