Despite GAyathri Girish (GG) having a slight voice problem (noticably felt only when she sang in lower octaves), she delivered a good concert overall. For the first two numbers till SowrAshtram there was little excess aggression and slight shruti problems .The alApanai of sAraswati wasgood to very good and the krithi was rendered with a very good diction .The neraval and swaras in saraswati were presented in right proportion . The rare kamAs krithi dipped the quality of the concert ,could have bought more alankAram to kamAs.
The day's second best was her alApanai in subhapantuvarAli with a right pace just reminding a style similiar to Shri TNS. The krithi rendition was also very good, the mood in the swaras just got little away from excellence as she started with few kanakku swaras, but later she continued excellently and wrapped up well. The rarer AbhEri of OVK was not that great.
The alApanai of mOhanam was presented very detailed and was very good. Having presented few rarer krithis before , I would have preferred to hear a more well set mOhanam krithi , nevertheless the krithi and swaras were rendered quite good. The neraval in mOhanam was not too appealing, possibly I am assuming the neraval line is a difficult thamizh line to bring the mOhanam ecstasy.
The best of the day was her excellent viruththam, she presented without violin returns all the rAgas aesthetically , the first three rAgas were very good,brindAvana sAranga viruththam was just good. GG could have sung the kaliyuga varadan in a slower kAlapramAnam , that little less pace could have given the real intinisic excellence of brindAana sAranga .The ArAr AsaippadAr was ok , the second half of nAdanAmakriya was not too interesting.The last shuruTTi was just good.
HN bhAskar's violin play was just average to good,the nAdham could have been better.Both the percussionists were just good ,the tani was just average . The kanjirA volume was on the high side. GG always impresses with her reportoire, but considering just yesterday the concert could have had richer rAga bhavam .
