Padavarnam on Lord Ayyappa

My Pranams to all.

My daughter has to perform a varnam on Lord Ayyappa in the month of May this year. We have been looking for a suitable song but have so far been unable to get one. It would be a great help if someone could lead me to the site where I could get the song and/or lyrics about a Varnam on Lord Ayyappa.

PR Venkata Subramanian has composed a ragamalika varna on Ayyappa . Maybe Lji has the txt.

U can pick up Ranganayaki Jayaraman CD titled- Guru Samarpanam, varnam on Ayyappa.

I have to second Meena's suggestion. Ranganayaki Jayaraman's ragamalika padavarnam on Ayyappa swamy is beautiful. I got the CD from Giri Traders in Mylapore, but maybe it's available online.

Umesh,

That was a very commendable attempt! I have cleaned it up to harmonize it with the usual transliteration we use. The words I have bolded are the words that don't seem to make sense to me on first perusal.

Hi All,

Thanks to you all Meena, RShankar, Umesh and VKRaman for you posts.

The URLs to rapidshare gave me only parts of the song. Unfortunately the country where I am resident, the cassettes are not available and we dont have the time to get it from India. Could someone be kind enough to post the whole song for me and let me know, if it is not against the policy of this site.

It is a commercial recording so I cannot post the whole song... sorry! I would suggest contacting Smt. Ranganayaki Jayaraman's school (Meena has provided a link above) and see if you can somehow get a copy of the cd, "Guru Samarpanam."

Hi there,

I was looking for any clues for this vernam online and came across this chain of email. I do have the lyrics for this song but can someone tell me tje line by line meaning. I am a Bharatnatyam dancer and teacher in US but do not understand the sing language ( I suspect this is in Tamil) at all.

This would be a big help as I am choreographing this Lord Ayyapan vernam for my student.

With reference to the padavarNam by ranganAyaki jayarAman, there are a few contact numbers of people printed on the CD. Maybe you could try to contact them to see whether you can beget the audio/notation.

What surprised me at this juncture was that svAti tirunAL having composed on gaNESha, murugan, Shiva and dEvi, has not even composed one song on this deity despite living in the same state. Maybe Prince rAma varmA could explain this.

I have just started teaching bharatnatyam in UK and I am looking out for an audio cd/tape for the varnam "Sakhiye Indha jaalam" in Sankarabaranam. Could anyone please provide me with more information on how to obtain this particular song as I need it for my students in a few months time.

It is available on a tape/cd entitled "An Evening of Bharatanatyam," with vocals by MLV. I believe you can listen to it on www.hummaa.com, but I don't know if or where it is available for download.
