I don't know. The song is from some other book.

Lji,

Meena just informed me that it is indeed part of the 'azhagar kuravanji' - incidentally, a couple of tidbits about this kuravanji (correct me if I am wrong):

1. Unlike the majority of kuravanjI's this one is on vishNu.
2. Secondly, IIRC, this was first choreographed and presented by Smt. Vyjayantimala Bali - she danced the role of Princess Mohanavalli - I am told she made a truly 'mOhana vallI'.

If i may, sprinkle to the tidbits :P
Vidwan Madurai N. Krishnan:

The first time Krishnan scored music for dance was in the late fifties, when he set to tune the lyrics of verses from Azhagar Kuravanji, at the request of Vyjayanthimala Bali.

Of course you may! :D

And thanks for that tidbit. I did not know that. I have always associated Vidwan Sri Madurai N Krishnan with Prof. Sudharani Raghupati - but then, both she and Smt. Vyjayantimala Bali shared Sri Kittappa Pillai as a guru!

Yes, it is one of the 37 songs from the azhagar kuRavanji. And since there is mention of ShrI TNS, the song "svAmin gajamukha vibhO" in kAnadA is the vinAyaka stuti prefacing this work.

108 talas,
This is an enlightened forum. Not a king (?)dom of the blind. Until Member_first pointed out, I did not 'see' your name as 108 talas (I know only a few)! Half-blind I was (dyslexic too?), to read your name as atlas108! Even mentioned you in a verse that way (bUgOLap puttagam).
Well, as for my moniker: this is what happens when names of persons are taken literally.
attanai tALangaLil onbadu tALamum aRiyAdavaL,
ariya rasikar aTchiyilE ariyaNai amralAgumO?

Is it possible for someone who barely knows nine tAlAs
To occupy the throne in the land of such rare rasikAs?

Royal in name alone--and on the Rasikas, just a member. Member first, second and last, a privilege in itself :)

arasi,

I am aware that this is an en'light'ened forum. You have the right to read me wrongly :D

ATLAST, everyone reads me correctly !!!

So called ' bUgOlap puttagam' I have nowhere used. In fact, your Highess 'Arasi' mentioned as 'bUlOga paDatArE' !!! as a reply to my verse.

2 2
108, I had chosen because of its uniqueness ( 2 x 3 )

eNNum ezhuthum iru kaNNendAr VaLLuvar.
paNNum tALamum iru kaNNenbAr rasikar.
maNakkum isaiyadankaN seviyE maduppar,
aaNDimudal 'arasi'varai avaniilE.

sankeernam jAthigaLil vehuvAna madippu koNDadu.
pAngAna sandhigaLil onbadE sirappai eenDRadu.
aangE, panniru aDipaDai swara chErkaiyODu
sangeetham nooRTReTTu dikkilum olitaDu.

- While for ThiruvaLLuvAr, both alpha numerics are the eyes for human being, for the music lovers, it is swara and tAla. If there is a good music, ears first get activiated, be it a poor person or a 'queen'. (so no blind approach)

- In Jathis(connected to Laghu), Sankeernam has maximum number (9) and in Sandhi tAlas too nine is very prominent. When there is a befitting culmination of these talas with the basic(uncontroversial) 12 swara divisions, the sangeetham art gets woven(nooTRu) nicely and heard in all eight directions.

108 talas,

good verse, specailly that handling of nooTReTTU was very good. (sorry I too have used same trick below, but no royalty wd b given to you !!!)

Further that 12(notes) x 9(sandhis)= 108 was refreshing.

Here, we have some good poets too, who may be composing and singing as well. Kudos to them.

Thanks vgv for introducing me in this thread. Dear Forumites, the above is my attempt at translating one of the Bhaja Govindam shlokas -'bAlastAvat kreedasaktha'.I just penned whatever thoughts came to my mind after reading the sloka and it resulted in this.Hope you like it.
The way it is raining kavithais- 'kavithai mazhai pozhikiradaippArthAl'- we have to have a separate thread for members' kavithaigal I think.
