dear rmdeer2000, the notes for the bowli swaram:

p, d p, g r g p, g r, s n d

p, d s, r g p d, p S n d p ,

d p d g p r g p g p d S n d

G R, S n d R S, n d p d d p, g r g ( pancha charuni {shree ragam})

the italicized notes are of the lower scale. eg: p, d, n.

the capital bold notes are of the higher octave. eg: S, R, G

It is said to be a dasa raaga malika, but it consists of only 9 raagaas right?

i thought inta kOpamElarA was an ashTa rAga mAlika.. could somebody clarify..

nATTai, gauLa, Arabhi, varALi, srI, nArAyaNagauLa, rItigauLa, bauLi right?

rbharath: You are correct. There are only 8 rAgAs.

Lakshman Sir, the lyrics you sent for this varnam has 9 raagas in it.

5 ghana rAgAs, nArayaNa gaula, rIti gaula, nAtta kurinji and kEdAram.

i was taught the varnam as a nava ragamaalika as it has:

naattai, gowlai, varaali, arabhi, shree, narayanagowlai, reetigowlai, bowli and kedaram.

I think the varNa should have had 5 rAgas of prathama ghanarAga pancaka + 5 rAgas of dvitIya ghanarAga pancgaka (bouLi, kEdAra, nATakuranji, rItigouLa and kEdAragouLa) . I guess some pAthAntaras have missed a charaNa. - IIRC, Shashank has played it with all the 10 rAgas.
