Rasikapriya,

Here you go: This was one of the bhajans we learnt in school many rains ago! It is composed in hindi (either in brij bhAsA or avadhI - not sure now)

Please sing (gAyiyE) the praises of gaNpati, who is worthy of being bowed to/prayed to (vandan) by the entire world (jag). He is the son (nandan) of pArvatI (bhavAnI) and the brilliance (suvan - means the sun literally) of Siva (Sankar). He is the embodiment/residence (sadan) of accomplishment (siddhi) with a handsome (sundar) elephant (gaj) face (vadan), the destroyer of obstacles (vinAyak), and the repository (sindhu) of compassion (kripA). His services are useful (lAyak) for everyone (sab). This lover (priya) of sweet-meats (mOdaka) is the bestower/giver (dAtA) of joy (muda) and auspiciousness (mangaL), He is the bestower/creator (vidhAtA) of intelligence (buddhi), and an ocean (vAridhi) of skill and knowledge (vidyA). Tulsidas (the composer) asks/requests (mAngat) with arms (kar) held together (jOdE) in supplication for 'rAm and sItA (siyA) to reside (basahu) in my (mOrE) mind (mAnas) for ever'.

Ravi,

THANK YOU for the beautiful word-to-word translation. :) It is a simple bhakti song which makes a good opening number . In the version I have the lyrics are interspersed with crisp jathis (Avnipriya : it must be the same song, for the solkattu begins as the one you posted)

As for the language, I had wrongly tought that the song could have been in hindi & sanskrit only bacause there were so many familiar (sanskrit) words in it.
Thank you for the clarification (Ravi & Krishnaa)

Rasikapriya,
you are welcome!
the nouns used in avadhI and hindi are almost the same, and this bhajan mainly consists of different nouns (names of Ganesha)
some of the other bhajans of tulsidas in simple avadhI contain very difficult sanskrit words also.
