Smt Gayathri Girish - Vocal
Shri BU Ganesh Prasad - Violin
Shri Kallidaikurichi Shivakumar - Mrudangam

This concert was held about a week back at Ayodhya Mandapam as part of a Tamil conference - Panniru Thirumurai Maanadu. It consisted primarily of Thevaram and Thiruppugazh compositions.

The composer of each piece was announced by the artiste.

1) Puzhiyarkon-Virutham followed by Vandaarkuzhal- Gambheera Natai-Thirugnanasambandar
2) Thalaye Nee Vanangaai- Panthuvarali-Thirunavukarasar
3) Ninaimin Manane- Arabhi-Pattinathar Paadal
4) Utrumai Servadhu- Shankarabharanam-Thirugnanasambandar
5) Kunitha Puruvamum - Virutham followed by Vaananai- Keeravani-Thirunaavukarasar
6) Vazhi Maraithirukkudhe-Nattaikurinji- Gopalakrishna Bharathi
7) Enneramum-Thodi- Marimutha Pillai
8) Ammaye Appa - Virutham followed by Muthi Neri- Mohanam-Manickavasagar
9) Kadhi modhi-Kalyanavasantham-Thiruppugazh
10) Ponnar Meniyane- Kurinji
11) Kanaka Sabhai Mevum-Abhogi-Thiruppugazh
12) Eenamigu-Surutti-Thiruppugazh

Quite some effort must have gone into presenting such a list. Personally enjoyed the Keeravani and Thodi pieces. Quite a few pieces had inherent varying Laya patterns. These are supposedly part of the way in which Thevarams used to be sung. The violinist accompanied very well and all his replies were precise. Mrudangam was good as well.

Sathej,

Thanks for the review. Whose composition is 'ponnAr mEniyanE'?

I find Sri Ganesh Prasad to be a very good accompanist - a bit under-rated perhaps?

Ravi,
Ganesh Prasad is a bit underrated perhaps, but he lives in Chennai now, I hear. The B factor (from Bangalore ) and the fact that one also resides in Bangalore, KarnatakA, Andhra Pradesh and KeraLA does not help in being in demand in the vibrant Chennai scene.
He has been around for a while, and thank goodness, the Chennai move helps (I hope what heard it right about his move). Anyway, he is and has been busy playing for instrumentalists like Ravi Kiran and Shashank and now, for many vocalists too.

As for Gayatri Girish, yes, she is very keen on learning more and more of songs, it seems. She is game for any thematic format. i have also spotted her in several concerts. Always learning, it appears...
